Probably Magic posted:TNC is important because he puts a helluva lot of research into stuff and makes really good cases for affirmative actions and a lot of other poo poo, but I feel he stumbles on some of his prescriptions on the basis of him that racism is a Cosmic Law of the Universe as opposed to a tool of practicality. It's probably overly romantic of me to think you can argue the racism out of people (and to be fair, I think it can only be done with some, over a long period of time), but I'm not sure that automatically assuming the white man is a Fallen Creature Who Will Never Get It leads to anywhere... helpful. It may or may not be true, it's just... where do you go from there if you assume that's automatically the case? You kill the idea of a coalition from the start. yeah, but on the other hand white leftists don't get to tell black people that black nationalism is wrong zegermans posted:oh man the deplorables backlash was pure Clinton - she straight COULD NOT directly apologize because she's incapable of swallowing her pride when she thinks she's right (she was in this case as almost every poll shows) the deplorables was the closest thing Clinton did to directly speaking truth from her heart the whole campaign and all the criticism of it is just that it was bad politics without arguing against it on the merits

Not all cops are rich or make good money for their area. Collectively earning your keep through the same struggle and exposure to danger for a greater cause improves solidarity more than if they were immediately comfortable upon hiring, combined with cost effective service management and distribution.

Venom Snake posted:I agree in the sense that TNC probably preserves most of his criticism for the left because talking about the rightwing is essentially pointless. Bernie and others could be convinced to adopt more radical pro-black positions. Anyone to the right of him? lol One thing that kind of annoys me is that while the left has race problems, they are still objectively better than liberals in every way. Like, any problem the left has also exists with liberals, except magnified. A lot of people levy accurate criticism against the left but in a disproportionate way relative to the criticism they levy at liberals/mainstream Democrats.
