This doesn't mean they aren't massive asshats who will try to take everything you own via asset forfeiture, however.

There's a difference between local law enforcement over a few hours and a federal agency after a change in administration.
With a few very public exceptions, even the most tough on crime local cops in border states (which Florida is because of the Caribbean immigration) really don't give a gently caress about immigration law and if anything find it a hindrance. They know that if they start doing this their job will jut get much much harder.
(This doesn't necessarily apply to immigration checks at jail, where there is a more mixed reaction, but that's really a different story as they're seen as "criminals" by the cops. Undocumented persons are generally not seen as criminals by local police.)
