Further evidence in the newest episode for my theory that the only book Felix has read is Le Miserables and he thinks all books are like that. The verit code he gave ended in 24601, so he probably had to see the play as a kid with his parents, then they gave him the book.

Longtime readers will know that US Presidential politics are a favourite spectator sport of mine. That said, I’ve been less impressed with the resistible political rise of Donald Trump than you might expect. Mostly because, like last time, I fully expect him to bail out before the candidate debates. He’s only going to be genuinely funny if he finds the courage/madness to stand at a lectern with other people and deal with voices that exist outside his own head.

But. If he does decide to go the distance. Well.

Many years ago, a supposed politician with comedy hair and the manners of a rapey clown ran for mayor of London. The incumbent mayor, Ken Livingstone, had been such an entrenched part of London life for so long that his position has taken on the air of permanency. He outplayed Margaret Thatcher and outfought Tony Blair. And then, in 2008, Boris Johnson beat him. And, among friends and acquaintances in London, I only ever heard of one version of how this happened.

A lot of people voted for Boris Johnson because they thought it was funny. Ken was obviously going to win, so they voted for the comedy candidate, to have a funny story to tell in the office the next day. Imagine everyone’s surprise when more than half the city came into work with the same funny story.

Even London cabbies are today heard to say that they regret the day Ken left the mayor’s office.

So that’s how that happens. If, by some fluke of luck, Trump reaches a point where people have to cast votes, the Boris Johnson Effect may cause some regrets.

(By “regrets” I obviously mean Armageddon.)

Isn't there a twist in the end where the superhero mayor turns out to be a backstabbing piece of poo poo?

I wouldn't know cause I got bored with it halfway through, but I read that somewhere and thought "oh, neat I guess"

Yeah he gets increasingly corrupt and duplicitous as the story goes on.

Felix being the kinda guy who reads one book and can't not filter reality through it would be a problem, but at least he picked a strong class justice story instead of Harry Potter

Ellis is good but Transmetropolitan is still just really tired "WE NEED A BRAVE EDGY TRUTH BOY TO SAY ACTUALLY EVERYTHING IS BAD" and its only good arc was the one where bald truth man hosed off to different pleasure domes because it at least involved the slightly dawning realization that his job is actually pretty useless and he'll probably only be happy if he fucks off from being fueled by anger and spite 24/7 because he's never gonna magically 'win' and make the entire world go 'bald smartman with dumb glasses you are right and we're all bad'

Yeah I enjoy Transmetro, but I prefer something like his Moonknight run; still better at doing cape comics than Ennis. I mean gently caress Ellis did goddamn Nextwave which is near perfect.
