Yes, because what businesses do is, if left unchecked, actually harmful to the people. They are ravenous beasts that must be beaten down with regulation and taxation, so they serve us, the masses, instead of their few oligarch owners. Excuse and explanation are the same thing, except one is trying to avoid the responsibility, while the other makes no comment.

There are probably dozens, if not hundreds of variations, but I think that the scorpion dooming itself is an integral part of the story, if the essence is meant to be about the nature of something being impossible to change or reason with. Communism only makes sense for pre-industrial societies that would like to stay that way. It would be great if academics would quit obsessing over Marx and devote their efforts to coming up with an alternative to capitalism that actually makes sense for the 21st century.
