I'm of the belief that a regularly driven car with up to date maintenance should be fine, I'm fairly wary of the garage queens with low mileage as sitting for extended periods of time has me worried about hard starts when everything isn't nicely lubbed up.

I hope so because my shitbox C2 has 132k on the original dual row because I don't feel like the throwing in the retrofit kit the PO included in the sale :v:

In other news, the turbo came home after a few weeks at the car spa wrapped and with ceramic pro on the wrap, wheels, and calipers. Cost a lot more than I was hoping but looks great and should be good for 10+ years.

Question on the wrap, how's the gloss/depth up close? And how did you have them deal with jams? Are those just the original color, or did they wrap inwards or something? I ask because it seems like that's a high end wrap (and it looks great), which from what I've seen seem to be getting better and better, but I've still never seen one up close. Well, or if I did it was so good I just couldn't tell it was a wrap, which I suppose is the point.

They wrapped the jambs everywhere until they ran into the hinges but for another 300 I could have the doors taken off and there wouldn't be any paint showing. Since the paint is silver and pretty neutral they recommended just doing the partial door wraps which worked fine since I didn't notice any exposed paint when I was checking it out.

The gloss is good but there's a fine grainy pattern that shows up close in bright light that keeps it from looking like paint. From 10 feet it looks like paint and it's not like it was going over flawless paint anyways since it's so low, has 60k miles, and is 16 years old.

It's Avery Dennison SW900 Light Blue which is about as close to Leguna/Mexico/Riviera blue as you'll get.

3500 for the wrap, 350 for the door jambs, 650 for the wheels, calipers, and wrap coated with Ceramic Pro. The ceramic is like permanent wax so I should get 10+ years on the wrap and 5+ years before I might need another ceramic coating with a couple thousand miles per year. The price was probably $1000 over what I could have found somewhere else but this place did an identical GT2 really well and is a premium shop. They filled and wetsanded the rock chipped bumpers plus some minor other details without any upcharges plus the owner did the wrap and is very obviously a car enthusiast so I felt good about the whole thing. https://www.rehabdetailing.com if you're in the NE Ohio area.

Nope, but I bet they would if i asked them. I used to flash plate them in zinc-nickel but now I just use zinc flake which dodges hydrogen embrittlement questions and is what's done on high end stuff already. I did one set in cerakote because we had some kicking around but it's overkill despite being the best.

I've seen a few tempting looking cars come through Platinum but I've also seen some kind of terrifying reviews about them selling what amounts to lemon or rebuilt luxury cars they grabbed for cheap at auction. Interested to hear if anyone has first-hand experience.

Well turns out there is a $15k lien on the car

Or not? I asked for the car proof, it shows no lien but 2 accidents. One claim for $13k the other has no insurance claim attached

Either way not sure what to do, other than see if they will drop the price closer to $15k, considering it's high KM and has had multiple accidents.

Pulled the factory wheel locks off of the 944 today. Took about ten minutes with a tiny flathead. Not sure those even count as locks since they can be unlocked so easily.

I'm planing to do the brakes on the Carerra this winter during the down time. Any recomendations on brands? A Rennlist sponsor seems to have decent prices on Textar. Are they comparable to OEM? $500 shipped to Montana for all the pads, rotors, sensors, caliper bolts, even 1L of Motul fluid and a wheel mounting tool.

Pretty sure Textars are Porsche OEM. I have a pile of pad sets from POs of a couple of my cars and they're all Textar.

Do iiit. Have IMS done plus some other odd fixes while it's apart and have a solid car that shouldn't need anything major for a few years. The stalk is easy to fix or replace, it took an hour to do on my 968 and I'm pretty sure it's basically the same assembly. Full leather really makes a difference in the interior and blue is just icing on the cake.

Pretty sure they're BBS/Porsche Sport Classic IIs which aren't that expensive compared like the BBS LMs you might be thinking of.

At least they're not Sport Designs which are somehow the most expensive OEM wheel despite looking like rear end.

In Porsche news, I suddenly remembered that every standard turbo car tune I've ever seen improves low end torque and drivability so I plugged in the switcher and set it to the pump gas 650hp tune from the stock ~450ish tune on the turbo. It did indeed make the car a million times easier to launch despite the clutch feel still being crap without any downsides I've noticed so far. I still hadn't really pushed it much with the stock tune but it feels like it could do a wheelie at 3/4 throttle now without even trying. It's on a stock suspension but it drives so well and the ride height is convenient for daily driver so I really haven't been looking at anything but that extra power moves it more than I expected.

The seller showed me the car (since I'm local, I def wanted to see it), and it's not much different from brand new, so while it hasn't been used much, definitely impressive that it only lost 4k in a year and a half. That's going on the seller saying the dealer didn't mark it up; I dunno if he actually got a discount off MSRP.

So I took my 1986 n/a 944 in to get the brakes flushed and bled today by a local shop. I picked it up, and it's idling funny:

It was doing this briefly when I bought the car in April, but not once since then. I thought maybe it would clear up once the car was warmed up (normally it runs rough for the first thirty seconds) but it didn't clear up.

Vacuum leak? Idle control valve (which looks like its under the intake manifold)?

Practically every special edition Cayman/Boxster/911 stands around MSRP for a long time from what I've seen. Also did you check that 996 out last weekend?

New old wheels on the 968. The other set is back on the 996 so I can get it ready for inspection in 2 weeks :pray:
