On the ERA GT40 replica auction, some guy posted this tidbit about the GT40 replica featured in Fast Five:quote:I thought long and hard before talking to my buddy Fran at RCR and buying a RHD roller. Master painter Ron Randall at Metalmorphus in CT painted it, including applying his patented liquid metal process to the dash. This created the appearance of an aluminum insert around the gauges and switches on the dash board. It was a fantastic car and many of you have seen it. If not, watch the Fast Five movie and the scene in the warehouse where they are examine the GT you will see his work on the dash and my work on the rest of the car. Well, all except for the clumsy production cut when they show a radio in the dash that not only was not there, but looks like crap. My biggest surprise when Fast Cars purchased it from me was this exchange:

Thanks to that, I checked to see if there was a Metals Supermarket in my area, and discovered that there were 2 within easy reach, and another a bit further out. Sweet.

That's exactly the motivation I needed to stop procrastinating and drinking too much coffee this morning, and actually get my rear end in the garage.

Cars and coffee in Grand Rapids this morning with my potato phone. Pretty good mix of cars there. On the walk over: Probably my favorite car in the show. Only thing I'd change would be the wheels. No way I'd be putting stretched 215s on a car with this much power. Was always curious about these. I'd love to build a coupe. This one had 500whp.

I mean, I wouldn't want a 4th gen Camaro either, but describing having to drive one as a patrol car as "paying the ultimate price" is laying it on a bit thick...

That made me curious about BMW i8 depreciation. It seems you lose more in the first year on an $45k i3 than you do on a $145k i8. Even 2014s have only lost 50% of their value, i3s get that done year one. It's still 70 grand in 3 years, though. $6.40 a day or around $3.50 a mile.

When $150k is the equivalent of $70k 2017 dollars.

Factory 5 818. It's a kit car that uses a subaru WRX/STi running gear but removes the rear driveshaft and mounts it in the back for a MR roadster or coupe. Pretty neat kit. https://www.factoryfive.com/818/ Suburban Dad fucked around with this message at 14:20 on Sep 10, 2017 |

Maybe not awesome car poo poo in the traditional sense, but definitely awesome car engineering, awesome airtime and a metric gently caress ton of luck. Here are photos from the scene of an accident that took place near my offices, yesterday. (lovely quality, stolen from Twitter). The driver survived. Bonus accident scene walkaround for more carnage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GGIoEf70Io Here is a bad video of the actual accident. No, I also don't know why the moron who uploaded it shot video of a video on a computer monitor, instead of uploading the actual video. https://www.facebook.com/someshitaboutcars/videos/151633555424168/ I'm very familiar with the road where this happened.. The direction she came from is smooth and fast, but has quite a big kink in it – even if it is three lanes wide at that point. It's also likely that tow-truck driver had left some oil or brake fluid on that section of road (they're known to do this). Regardless, she came through there with way too much speed, way too little experience and also probably drunk: it happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and she refused to be taken to hospital (she was completely unhurt; so her drunken ragdolling likely saved her life). Anyway, she piled through that fast bend, washed wide (lol quattro understeer) and then crossed over to the other side of the road, hit the sidewalk, sand embankment, went airborne and landed at the dealer gates. 1 is where the intersection is, and where we briefly see her headlights in the video, before the accident. 2 is where she hit the opposite side of the road. 3. Is where she landed up. This point is 120m (130 yards) from where she first hit, and 210m (230 yards) from the intersection.

It's cute that there's some artist out there that thinks bench seats with no headrests ever has a chance of seeing the light of day again. I'm sold on having a led matrix in the bumpers though. Cut me off? Enjoy some ascii goatse, dipshit.

Add bumpers, another 2" of ride height, 1" smaller wheels, 2" thickness to the B-pillars and probably another inch to the C-pillars, and give it some normal door handles. Now the exterior is ready for production and a $39,995 price tag. The interior will get whatever is leftover from CRZ production, but with more blue dash lighting.

Am I the only person who thinks the CRZ was a horrible, horrible car not because it's bad, but because it's not good at anything? Meh performance, meh gas mileage, meh interior (and only 2 seats for some reason) and meh looks. It just doesn't fit into any niche whatsoever.
