I didn't think it was possible to be more disgusted by Hillary Clinton that I have been since her 2007-8 smear campaign against Obama, but I guess she's finally found something she excels at because by golly she's managed to make me despise her more than I ever imagined possible.

how are they suppose dto raise the money? payroll taxes? gas taxes? sin taxes?????? sales taxes?????? raising taxes on small businesses?????? there are literally no other ways to raise money

and that's leaving aside how the vast majority of americans would be better off under a modest & static payroll tax vs. ever-increasing premiums + deductibles + co-pays.

funny how "defense" money is never an issue.

Fine to waste 10,000 on healthcare skyhigh costs than to spend the same money and get all americans covered.

Speaking of, one thing I've never understood is how folks who seem to hold Obama in reverence just...ignore '08. "Disgusting" is not actually a strong enough adjective to describe her campaign behavior toward Obama. It was a vicious loving primary that made '16 look like a pillowfight. And yet it seems like more than a few of these folks just cannot stop being boosters for Hillary on literally anything. It's loving :psyduck:-inducing.

And the thing is, they'll ignore her poo poo-slinging toward him in this book, too.

this is all true, and even *obama* arguably went harder on the "HRC is corrupt and untrustworthy" line of attack than Bernie did

probably because their donors clear their throat sternly if they entertain the idea of taxing the rich, you know where all the money went

its just not possible, just look how the GOP is floundering on it too especially with ACA repeal. They're not even saving money doing it too.

the most hilarious(ly awful) thing is that while taxing the rich would be cool and good, a lot of good things could be accomplished without even doing that

the fed has been doing "quantitative easing" for a decade now, which is basically a huge hose of money to financial institutions. that huge hose of money exists not only to give the financial sector tons of money but also because if it didn't exist we would be in a deflationary spiral from the recession. that huge hose of money could literally be redirected to any kind of spending and achieve the same results more or less; it exists to compensate for the fact that the government literally doesn't spend enough money to maintain a healthy currency

Anyway, the real reason liberals are so quick to dismiss rural voters as worthy of concern has nothing to do with race, but because they're simply incapable of even conceiving or realizing social programs that would revitalize rural America and make life sustainable for its poorest people. The only forces liberals understand are market forces, which is why they're always talking about ways to forcefully migrate people from the countryside into cities - despite the fact that it's the very rich white people moving back into urban environments that are gentrifying them and making the cities unlivable for the people of color that Democrats pretend are their natural constituency.
well the other issue is that democrats must run on culture war issues just like the republicans. they can't run on mainly economic issues because saying that your agenda is to enrich the very wealthy at the expense of the voters even more wouldn't be popular, so you have to give voters something else to vote for. painting the opposition and their voters as the racist/sexist bad guys helps to push this culture war agenda for the democrats. it lets you give yourself the identity of "good guys" by being on team democrat.

And when somebody finally read it and asked him questions, he couldn't explain it. He couldn't tell people how much it was going to cost. So I haven't seen whatever it is what they are going to be using and signing onto, so I don't know. I'm for universal healthcare coverage that is high quality and affordable, fairly American. And I think there is a lot of ways to get there, to open up Medicare, to open up Medicaid, to control prices on prescription drugs. And I think with this bill they will have a lot of problems. For one I don't think they've taken into account of the enormous tax increases it will take to pay for single payer. And if you are really telling people "half of the country", that they can no longer have their policies they have with their employers... I've been down this road when I worked with people in '94, if I had a magic wand...I would do something like Single Payer, like something they have in Europe. But there are a lot of powerful forces such as people's fears and their appreciation for what they already have. When the bill comes out I will read it but if there is no...grandfathering in, you know some cost estimates, I mean...look at what happened in Vermont. Democratic Party was for single payer, they were trying to achieve it. A small state. They were talking about a payroll tax of moving to 11.5%. There are challenges. So I'm for universal healthcare bar none."
