I haven't read the Dragonball manga in years but the way Toriyama drew Piccolo's cape billowing behind him is just fantastic. Something about that man's linework is just so appealing.

A bookworm librarian dies under a pile of books, and wakes up as a sickly, poor, kindergarten-aged little girl. The world is pre-printing press, so she is completely without the books she loves, and being able to read and write is a luxury only for nobles and higher-ranked commoners. She still has her memories of her first life, so she has ideas on how to improve or use things, but she is a tiny, frail child, so she has to completely rely on her new family and friends to get even small things done.

This is probably the first entry in that genre worth reading (other than maybe Grimgar i guess).

Anyways, I wonder if they're going to brush over the 'apparently her body belonged to someone else' thing, or if that was just a misunderstanding on the protagonist's part...

The impression I got was the person her body belonged to died before she took over and inherited the dead girl's memories.

It's grim, but less grim than effectively killing the girl and stealing her body. I also got the impression that the original little girl died.

World customize creator is an interesting take on the trapped in another world genre, except it's just him in a last airbender-esque medieval fantasy world and he's literally got console command powers, and it freaks everyone the gently caress out when he's like "hmmmmm...I want to build a tower here!" and just edits an impossibly tall tower into the middle of a city, or spawns a wall between two opposing factions because they refuse to stop fighting

It's got a bit silly as of late but I like the political machinations between the various nation-states and the powered/non-powered humans. I'd post some pages but I'm on my phone right now, maybe later

i meant the part about essentially hijacking someone's life. wcc is pretty bad, yeah, but he enters that world without knowing anyone. i don't think you have a point aside from 'isekai stories are bad', which everyone who has read one already knows.

Yea, it was a web or light novel. One of the extra pages talks about the artist and the original author working on the manga.

There's a good, if slow-progressing, translation of Bookworm's web novel right here:

http://blastron01.tumblr.com

From what I gather in the WN thread, the story is very long running and stays a well-written character piece throughout, while still changing the formula often enough.

You must not read much then, because Overlord is positively okay compared to lots of other series.

And WCC isn't nearly as bad as Pavlov seems insistent on making it out to be, though his issue seems to be with the genre entirely. Like, Sword Art Online or its ilk are leagues worse.

I would have really liked how Overlord has a protagonist losing touch with his humanity if it was actually about that. Instead, it constantly fetishizes the atrocities that happen as a result, indulging in gore with off-putting sincerity. There are worthwhile characters and bits of world building but Overlord pushes them to the side more and more as the novels progress.

I've only read the manga of overlord, I have heard it does take a turn for the worse later on in the light novels, but the lizardmen stuff was interesting. If it just turns into sadistic torture porn that's some real wasted potential.
