Kaliber posted:I didn't write his. His old platoon leadership did it. The e7 who loved him to death gave him an AAM or something. Hell, I don't even think it was me that handed him his award. But I know he got one because he never asked for a memo of lateness when he was clearing. Apparently you can't even PCS/ETS without an award or a memo stating why you didn't get one. What the gently caress? This dude gets one and I get a letter stating I was too fat to get one? MODS!?

I thought ETS awards were optional. (I did leave active in 93)

I never got one, or even put in for one as far as I knew. The only award I wanted at that point was my DD-214.

Pretty much all my awards are impact awards. I got 1 for PCS.

At the very least it was the rule at Benning a few years back. There was some fuckery with it though, I don't think I officially had it because battalion or troop or whatever it was takes forever and I got my "get the gently caress out broke dick" orders with 4 weeks before I was supposed to start terminal leave. But there was something something something and it ended up on my DD214.

I told them to mail me my ets award and I gave them the wrong address to mail it to.

Like I said before, it doesn't matter now and I'm sure I could write my congressman blah blah blah. I wasn't even offered it, and that kinda disrespect was stupid. Especially because I had 3 impact awards (2 AAM and 1 ARCOM) for kicking rear end but as soon as I couldn't do PT I was a piece of poo poo. More importantly I was a piece of poo poo who couldn't do crossfit and said it was going to hurt someone. It's easy to zero the worth of something if you have it. Won't happen if you don't. That goddamn carrot.

I'm surprised the Army doesn't have a brigade-sized mountain training center to complete the trifecta of terrible terrain.

PTA is pretty lovely. On a mountain/volcano. Not exactly mountaineering though.

In fact I and everyone I know would rather do a month or more at NTC than do the two weeks at PTA.

My unit has been trying to sell 25D as the promised land to help retention but at 14 weeks I really can't imagine the training being that useful. Also "go to 25S school/BLC(when funding permits), wait for a slot to open, wait two years as E5, do ALC (and funding) then apply for 25D" is a laughable plan.

But I watched a couple different schoolhouses suddenly fill to the brim with transition NCOs/E-4s when infantry slots dried up but comms/cyber, air defense, and some intel/FA slots stayed the same or expanded.
