Honestly without Paul Walker to balance out Vin Diesel anymore it's kind of time for old crew to move on and bring in the Hobbs/Shaw Fast and Furious.

I really liked that Vin Diesel arranged to have this big dramatic arc in Fate of the Furious and the only thing people talked about afterwards was the Rock/Statham prison brawl.

Vin's arc in F8 was supposed to be serious? It was like daytime soap opera but with bigger budget and some good stunts and scene chewing. I liked it because of that though

Star Wars was more than just a blockbuster though, it was a cultural touchstone because of what it did for cinema as a whole, and looking at the box office numbers alone misses why it had such impact.

Star wars had lines around the block to get into theaters. Nothing has been that popular since. Of course, distribution is different now too.

I was musing on how digital has changed the way movies are made, and came to the conclusion that there just isn't a hype machine for movies anymore because you can go from Pre-Production to Blu-Ray in under a year now.

I remember when if you didn't go see a movie when it was in theaters, you had to wait at least 9 months to rent it at the local video store. It tripped me out to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in stores a couple weeks ago.

Wikipedia posted:

Gone With the Wind
About 300,000 people came out in Atlanta for the film's premiere at the Loew's Grand Theatre on December 15, 1939. It was the climax of three days of festivities hosted by Mayor William B. Hartsfield, which included a parade of limousines featuring stars from the film, receptions, thousands of Confederate flags and a costume ball. Eurith D. Rivers, the governor of Georgia, declared December 15 a state holiday. An estimated three hundred thousand residents and visitors to Atlanta lined the streets for up to seven miles to watch a procession of limousines bring the stars from the airport. Only Leslie Howard and Victor Fleming chose not to attend: Howard had returned to England due to the outbreak of World War II, and Fleming had fallen out with Selznick and declined to attend any of the premieres. Hattie McDaniel was also absent, as she and the other black cast members were prevented from attending the premiere due to Georgia's Jim Crow laws, which would have kept them from sitting with their white colleagues. Upon learning that McDaniel had been barred from the premiere, Clark Gable threatened to boycott the event, but McDaniel convinced him to attend. President Jimmy Carter would later recall it as "the biggest event to happen in the South in my lifetime." Premieres in New York and Los Angeles followed, the latter attended by some of the actresses that had been considered for the part of Scarlett, among them Paulette Goddard, Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford.

I didn't see wonder Woman but this:

quote:

Having made his blockbuster bones with Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012, Fuchs saw his Pan script hit the Black List the following year. Directed by Joe Wright, the Peter Pan prequel of sorts came out in 2015.
isn't very encouraging.

Edit: Is there a list of Black List scripts that ended up getting made? I wonder what good:bad ratio on those would be.

It's a bit more than that, at least on the PC end. HP used to sell the brand in their laptops and the sound was pretty good for a laptop, but apparently they can no longer update them because of the Apple deal and HP is a bunch of cheap dicks. On the last Windows 10 update, it broke the Beats sound processor (or more likely the drivers disabled the connections to the subwoofers) and now everything sound tinny like a regular laptop speaker. I'm now stick with doing a restore to Windows 7 or keep trucking, hoping there's a slim hope that Microsoft will restore functionality to those drivers.
