No, I meant "ending" as in "ending of this storyline." I suppose that was unclear. Let's just say a plothread was left intentionally dangling and looming.

So Secret Empire Omega was mostly blather to my ears but I liked the part where Emma Frost and Beast touted New Tian as an idyllic mutant homeland that mutants have always dreamed of. "A glimpse of what we could have. What we could be. For generations of mutants, you've given them the map to someplace better," says Hank to Emma.

Just as a reminder, this was a place where mutants were assaulting humans and Inhumans in the streets and incarcerating them in concentration camps.

I think a lot of this might be people just inconsistent in their understanding of what was going on. I wouldn't be surprised if the writer (unless it was Nick Spencer) didn't know about the camps. I mean, like, I don't think the editors were doing a good job making sure everyone was consistent on what was going on in the event.

I know some of the readers weren't. I was chatting with some guy about it and he didn't believe that Inhumans were being put in camps and admitting that this changed his view on the series in a bad way when I proved it.

Oh, the writer is 100% Nick Spencer. Secret Empire: Omega is basically an epilogue to the main event, which goes through what's going on in the world after issue 10.

Oh, then Nick Spencer is a putz, it was a scene meant to demonstrate the privilege Hank experienced in a government made to serve only him as a commentary on white (or, potentially, a commentary on "reverse racism" :barf:), or both. Like, it's either Nick being a putz, Hank not realizing he's become what he hated, or both.

MS. MARVEL #25
Teenage Wasteland Part 1
Jersey City still has a need for a super hero, but why has KAMALA KHAN, a.k.a MS. MARVEL, vanished? In the wake of her disappearance, the city's newest hero RED DAGGER and even ordinary citizens attempt to carry on her Legacy of heroism. MS. MARVEL is nowhere...but also everywhere at once! And when an old enemy re-emerges, will anyone be powerful enough to truly carry the MS. MARVEL legacy but Kamala? PLUS: Includes 3 bonus MARVEL PRIMER PAGES!
Rated T+

I read this and I can think is "Kamala went back to her extended family for the weekend and Red Dagger came over, possibly an exchange situation." You know, since Red Dagger is a friend of Kamala's extended family overseas. Like, it's mystery only if you didn't read the issue right after Civil War II.

The Omega was stupid and doesn't actually answer any questions.

Technically Hydra Cap is the real Cap. He has the original body. Good Cap's body was created by Kobik. Leaving them as individuals is silly and of course we'll have to deal with this in the future so the taint of this poo poo book won't entirely go away.

No one cares about original bodies. Professor Xavier is on his fourth body and seventh set of legs. Betsy has been in the wrong body for thirty years. That's longer than some BSS posters have been alive.

I'm confused, and granted I either haven't read some of the books in question or read them years ago, but what makes New Tian any more special than Utopia, or even, I suppose, Magneto's Genosha? Neither of those were tied up with Hydra either so like, and they lasted longer than eight issues or whatever too, so shouldn't Hank be getting misty about one of those two instead of his current garbage country?

How much of Secret Empire do we think was Nick Spencer really wanting to leave his own version of The Maker in the world via Hydra Cap? Cuz I don't see NazSteve having legs quite the same way for reuse, but someone clearly thought he was great new villain of 2017 to keep him around.

I wasn't under the impression that he was in charge of New Tian either. I've only read bits and pieces of recent X-stuff but the sense I got was that Emma Frost was the real leader and some new version of Xorn was the figurehead. Although to be fair I totally forgot that Hank split off from Utopia under pretty acrimonious circumstances.

Utopia (apparently the capital of New Tian) was a lovely little island, Genosha was a lovely little island. New Tian is California (yes, in the undetermined time between 8 months after Secret Wars and the beginning of Secret Empire the mutants somehow took over California and transformed it into a mutant led authoritarian state).

At least Genosha started out as more than a lovely little island; it was a really nice and lush and beautiful island back when it was an Apartheid state that made mutants literal slaves

I always appreciate how meta it is, but i really got into this issue's discussion on what i have to assume were the original pitch meetings for the character and the choice they made to not have her as an anti hero/villain like the punisher who can more or less have as much longevity as staple heroes but as a hero that develops a sense of self that will make her a better character while undoubtedly sacrificing her lifespan as a published book

It was real interesting imo

Gurihiru are a really talented team, too. It's one of those books where the writing really does shine but the bloom goes off the rose a little when it's an art fill-in. See Adrian Alphona on Runaways or, uh, Adrian Alphona on Ms. Marvel, or Erica Henderson on Squirrel Girl. It's just a great book to look at, and I feel like in the last few issues in particular they've done some super fun and clever layout stuff that amplifies the meta stuff without, I don't know, stepping on Chris Hastings' toes I guess?

There's nothing special about me.
So, the only thing you need to know about Ben Reiley: Scarlet Spider this week is that it ends on a nearly literal deus ex machina.

The lady who killed Kaine turns out to be actual, capital D Death, she then says Ben Reiley is unique because he's been getting more and more unhinged because souls aren't supposed to go back and forth from heaven/earth and his will explode and leave him a soulless monster if he dies again. She then tries to get him to choose between Kaine and the girl he wants to save, he says he'll pick himself and when she says no he punches her and tries to get her to force the issue, she then laughs and says this was fun and gives both kaine and the girl their lives back, and also apparently heals all the scarring off his and Kaine's faces to boot.

This book feels like it was editorially mandated that it exist and certain things happen and I hate it.
