I also booked a reservation to tour the Mazda museum and factory in Hiroshima. I hope it's worth it, and I really hope they have a 787B on display.

If I can swing it I want to try and check out DaikokuFuto parking area but I'm not sure if there will be time since it is kinda of remote.

Are there any other car or automotive related things that I'm missing while in Tokyo or Hiroshima?

There's normally car meets at Odaiba just across the Rainbow Bridge if you want to check out what's on when you're there.

I'm going back early November as well, hopefully there's a meet on in that time as well.

If your hotel hires e-bikes I throughly suggest hiring one. It's a great way to get around and drivers are very accommodating to pedestrians and cyclists.

I felt safer riding a bike around Tokyo without a helmet on main roads than in my home town.

Also if you want to see some supercars out in the wild just walk around the back streets, they are all parked out in the wild as theres hardly any off street parking.

I have an expat friend who lives in a suburb of Tokyo, but I don't know anyone there who owns a car. I think my gf and I will have JR passes again so a 15 min shinkansen ride to Yokohama isn't too bad to get near Daikoku Futo, but from what I've read you either take a bus or taxi to get to the actual PA. And by subway it's something crazy like a 2 hour trip to get to it.

So yeah, I'm not sure of the logistics of getting in or out since I do t plan on renting a car in Tokyo.

They did have a 787B last time I was there, so hopefully still do.

If travelling by train back to Tokyo, you should go through Shizuoka. Worth a stop, as the Tamiya factory there has a small museum in their main office with some cars they've made models of, a tiny gift shop, and a display of both historical products and competition model kit builds. Shizuoka is also home to Rainbow Ten, a really great model shop with a big range and good prices.

In Tokyo, if you want any RC stuff, RC Champ are well priced on most things, I go to the Akihabara store. There's a few other model shops with car stuff there too.

Good call by Puddin about the car meets at Odaiba, I've seen a small drift event and a classic car show there. Obviously check out both the Toyota Mega Web and the little museum part of it that's in the shopping centre next door. If you're a nerd, the Joypolis arcade at Odaiba has an Initial D arcade game with full-size cars on motion platforms.

Car hire, I've used Toyota before, pretty easy to deal with .

We did get to go look around Odaiba and check out the Toyota Megaweb and classics museum, along with the giant gundam.

We'll be travelling by Shinkansen so stopping in shizuoka's a possibility, although it's a little tedious to drag luggage around or pay for a locker.

We'll definitely spend some time in Akiba, so I'll try to check out the RC car stores. I'd love to pick up a Tamiya model.

Don't drag luggage around! Use Takuhaibin. It's reliable and quick.

Send the luggage forward and just carry the stuff you want with you for that day. So much better than struggling with suitcases on the crowded subway and trying to find places for them on the Shinkansen.

In Shizuoka:

Tamiya head office is here:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/34%C2%B058%2709.1%22N+138%C2%B025%2708.2%22E/@34.969181,138.4182812,18z
Only worth a visit if you actively like them as a company, it's really just an area they have in the ground floor reception of their offices. It was definitely a good one for me, for instance they had the actual car on display that I had their model of as one of the first Tamiya kits I bought, but YMMV.

Rainbow Ten is here:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/34%C2%B059%2751.7%22N+138%C2%B024%2736.6%22E/@34.997692,138.4096221,19z
Very good prices and range of plastic model kits.

In Tokyo (Akihabara):

RC Champ is here:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/35%C2%B042%2712.6%22N+139%C2%B046%2711.3%22E/@35.703508,139.7692458,19z
I'd say they're probably the best pricing you'll find if it's a Tamiya RC model you're after.

Worth noting that there's also a couple of model shops with a reasonable amount of car stuff nearby:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/35%C2%B042%2711.0%22N+139%C2%B046%2717.8%22E/@35.703056,139.7705037,18z
and
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/35%C2%B042%2708.4%22N+139%C2%B046%2718.6%22E/@35.702331,139.7712978,19z

Tamiya have their own store in Shinbashi:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/35%C2%B039%2752.9%22N+139%C2%B045%2717.4%22E/@35.664702,139.7542898,19z
Not been to this one myself, but apparently they have everything. If Tamiya make it, is should be here.

Most of the Tokyu Hands stores seem to have a small model section also.

Also in Tokyo, check out the "Mario Kart" thing, where you can drive a kart (in costume) around city streets.

If you want a good burger, Fellows, just down a small alley near Omotesando station, is my favourite. Pain in the arse to find first time round though, tiny little place:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/35%C2%B039%2753.7%22N+139%C2%B042%2736.7%22E/@35.664927,139.7096538,19z
