100,000s a month with low player load

3.0 might push them into a million+ territory just to keep the game servers operational

3.0 was probably always the end point

if they walk back features and "promises" now, it will destroy the project. how can they say "well the MMO portion is canceled, you can only fly with 24 other people total, including friendlies and hostile at any given time" and not expect all the millions spent on cap ships to be refunded instantly

they are in an absolutely hosed position and have been spending millions on trying to dig themselves an upward hole out of their self created pit

hopefully the spite pledges for Love Pledge after CIG fails allows me to take a Robertsesque pic on the French Riviera

Star Citizen backers obtain a $45,000 refund
By Christopher Livingston 17 minutes ago
The refund covers three 'Completionist' packages the guild purchased, which each sell for $15,000.

Star Citizen, in addition to collecting record amounts of crowdfunding, has garnered no small share of criticism and skepticism. With myriad delays and missed deadlines, some backers who bought in early have been looking for a way out and requesting refunds. This now appears to include a guild that purchased three 'Completionist' packages, which Cloud Imperium Games sells for $15,000 each.

This post in r/starcitizen_refunds from a member of the guild, who prefers to remain anonymous, claims that following a long process they were able to acquire a $45,000 refund. The post lays out the details:

"There was lots of arguing within our guild, but in the end the whales who had contributed the most had the final say, and we refunded our three completionist packages, originally purchased at $15k each, so $45k total refund. We sidelined many other great games and commercial opportunities waiting for Star Citizen, but in the end we can't wait any longer, and a new generation is joining also who have absolutely no interest."

The post, which contains a number of screenshots of the refund process and correspondence with CIG continues: "It was a nightmare getting the refund, we are a commercial org and pooled the money to buy the completionist packages, and used a corporate card to buy them, so we had major issues with getting refunded to the same card, paypal and then providing ID. Total it took about 5 weeks to get sorted."

The Completionist package, by the way, contains all of the ships announced up to 2014, some 2015 concept ships, hangar decorations, and starter currency (in-game). While having to refund three of them for $45,000 is definitely nothing to sneeze at, it's a drop in the bucket considering the game has raised some $160 million in funding to date.

We've reached out to Cloud Imperium Games for comment, and will update this article if we hear back.

The last line "We've reached out to Cloud Imperium Games for comment, and will update this article if we hear back."

Which implies a notification from PCGamer to CIG about the article going up.

So presumably a response and an "update".

goons just totally owned some guys who backstabbed them last year. goons took literally all their stuff not nailed down and locked them out of the stuff they couldn't take. while ownage on that scale is funny you have to remember eve online is the most boring game on earth and should never be played

As usual, the only interesting thing in Eve is when a big story about goonswarm causing drama happens, the tldr is:
Goonswarm flipped the dude in charge of one of their enemy's giant death star sized parking garages, took everything from the org, parked the garage in the middle of their space and camped everyone who was logged out in it and trying to get out

Other leader of said organization has been permabanned from Eve for making death threats about the traitor in private chat, not realizing that said private chat was being livestreamed to twitch

Total take is something like $20,000 worth of assets, possibly more

Check this theory:

The $45,000 refund was not real. I mean, it **was**, but it was not some random person getting fed up, it was orchestrated by CIG. This is their exit plan in action. They are going to announce their closing soon and blame it on this (staged) refund causing a cascade event.
