It's a motivation issue more than it is an intelligence issue imo

Also a college degree is also a modern day letter of reference and the odds are just that more stacked against you without one. Data collected shows that the average American earns more as he or she gains education. This idea that education is useless is hurting a lot more people than it's helping.

Does this data factor in student debt and the years of lost earnings involved while you were in college?

I can't say I took the time to look at the methodology in detail but the average difference of lifetime earnings far exceeds that of 4 years of 'lost wages" for most people, not to mention the fact that in my experience many who didn't take student loans are equally in debt over some dumb poo poo like shiny new cars (like my fam)

Student debt though is a different beast and I can't say for sure. Some people really hosed up/got hosed over. But that's why i caution towards keeping costs low, go to the local community college or state uni, get roomies or live with family, do it part time while you work if you have to and can, etc

Anyways this is the schad thread sorry 4 the derail!

Advertisers are angry at Apple because Safari is going to block third party ad tracking. They are imposing a 24 hour limit on ads that follow you around the web, like when you buy shoes at Amazon and then ads keep showing you shoes in other websites. Apple is also blocking auto-play videos. Hopefully Google and others follow them.

I always find these kinds of targeted ads funny. I still have glasses ads floating around and my reaction is "you guys know that I just bought two pairs of glasses. That means that I don't loving need glasses anymore you stupid fucks."

But they're also creepy.

Is there a good summary of this situation that isn't a string of tweets? Your description doesn't exactly jibe with the articles I'm seeing. Their description is more along the lines of 1) there's this hosed up law that allows for expunging criminal records with a letter of recommendation, 2) the PM's father wrote such a letter on behalf of a child molester, and 3) the PM's party didn't disclose the existence of the letter until legally required to do so. Still terrible, obviously, but that version sounds less like the guy was running an Underground Railroad for pedophiles.

Not just "didn't disclose". "Actively covered up the existence of". As soon as the investigation teams saw the names in the records, they stopped wanting to investigate. The Icelandic Prime Minister knew about it in July, and this is one of the worst cases of child molestation in Iceland's history.

This is the second time in a year that Iceland's government has collapsed due to a scandal, last one was the Panama Papers.

Thanks for the article. I wish it had more information on the coverup, but the whole thing sounds like a shitshow in any case. There's probably not a good way to spin the PM's dad writing a letter of recommendation for a child rapist, but the party certainly seems to have found one of the worst ways.

If I understand correctly, the guy was acting on behalf of one (1) pedophile in accordance with this dumb clean slate law. Obviously he's a garbage person for trying to help such an rear end in a top hat, but the bigger problem, legally/political speaking, is how the government apparently handled it.
