She didn't bring the suit with her to Savage Land and she obviously can't compromise her mild mannered computer science student alter-ego, so she fashioned one from the gift shop (I'm guessing on where she got the material). Tippy even gets a savage land bow.

For my failures of next page low content, I only very vaguely recall the Magnus comics I read from dollar store grab bags of comics many years ago. But the idea of pulp sci-fi man karate chopping robots to death sings to me.

It would also probably be an important life skill for all those old timey mans comics where you're attacked by weasels, wolves, gorillas, or-

Oh the Gorilla was a robot. I wish I had the context for this.

I'm particularly partial to, "Look out! I'm bein' tossed forward!"

Honestly though I'm fond of Claremont's prosey style. It's clunky here but works really well in other parts of the same issue, and even here it has a sort of kitschy charm to it.

I cannot stand that Claremont poo poo. Great plotter, atrocious dialog. I imagine some of it was directed by editorial, "every comic book is somebody's first" so make sure we focus on the hypothetical brand new reader rather than long time readers who are aware the scope of things that can be torn through by Wolverine's adamantium claws (it's everything).

One advantage of Claremont's hyper-expository style is that it packs a lot into a single issue. One page is usually one plot beat, sometimes stretching to two pages for a big moment. He's able to keep the characters rich and interesting at that pace by making them all into ultratalkative hams, and if you're into that it works.

Bah, Stan Lee could pack just as much dialogue into an issue without making people explain that they're throwing punches.

I know Claremont's said that was what he wanted to happen, but even after I read his (and Alan Davis's) entire run on Excalibur, I just couldn't see it, because I always assumed that he was actually trying to do Kitty and Illyana.

Ilyana was Kitty's Gwen Stacy, Rachel was her Mary Jane.

(The Tobey Maguire movies and other adaptations always mildly annoyed me by making Mary Jane a highschool student and Peter's first love. I always thought it was kinda important to Peter and MJ's story in 616 that Peter had already had a deep love that he'd lost)
