The other two buildings look like off-shoots of the fishing shack. I'd be surprised if they get chosen because of that.

Pretty sure there's no fixed number of Ideas sets they make so there's not really such a thing as taking another person's spot.

That said I do agree that if the fishing shack sells well they could consider just making it a series. A small village in that style would look pretty great.

And then a UCS Cthulu.

I'm an alternate timeline that lighthouse came out instead of Fishing Store and I was about 20% happier.

Worth it for Green Grocer, Market Street, Cafe Corner. Things that are insanely marked up. Market Street is $50 from Lepin. $500 on ebay and was under $100 retail.

For things that are less than 2x retail, I'd say get the Lego version. This includes the Haunted House and most new things.

I see HH for £250 on eBay, think it was £70 on Lepin. So I'd go with Lepin in that case. I was also thinking about getting the fishing store but I would pay retail for that.

So i found out that the MF was to be available at roughly 8 AM. Not exactly at 08:00 because items in the store needs to be pushed manually, in every region.

Anyways i sat there :f5:'ing the webpage, at 08:01 it was not available for purchase yet and at 08:03 it was in back order. At 08:30 it was sold out. Welp.

I'm just extremely glad I have no interest in Star Wars. Between Destiny's Bounty, Ninjago City, the Old Fishing Store, and the Monster Fighters poo poo I bought, I'm already out over a grand in plastic bricks over the past month or so. I'm actually really happy about stuff like the Speed Champions sets, where I can get my fix for just $15 a pop and not agonize over the purchase.

HH was $180, though. It's not insanely marked up. Also, the Lepin version is inferior for a couple reasons. I think one is glow in the dark is missing. And the other is some cost cutting measures so it is not a true 1:1 copy.

Huh, so the Star Wars VIP card with the MF will have special SW VIP things that are for those specific cardholders only. Basically, it's a gently caress you to regular VIPs who can't afford the USC MF.

10228 Haunted House is well within the "might as well buy the original" range to me. If you buy used, they float around $260-280 on a good day, which is barely (or sometimes less than) $100 up from its original price, which is just not bad for a 5 year-old, retired, desirable set.

But then, I'm kind of against the notion of buying Lepin in the first place, so grain of salt etc. etc.

edit: semi-relatedly, wave 9 of LEGO Dimensions came out a couple days ago, which I don't really care about except for 71349: Beetlejuice, which I may need for the minifig to occupy my own Haunted House. I think it'll join 71203: Portal 2 Level Pack as my only Dimensions purchases, and both of which only for the figs.

Well, Lepin is certainly inferior by default. Especially with minifigs. But if you're having a conversation with someone who wants cheap bricks, then I don't think you're going to convince them that a set only being double the original retail price is a good deal for them.

Brickset has some weird stats... they list the current "value" for the HH as £121 if new, but £167 if used. (unless you click on the values, then the page tells you it's actually more like £250 either way)

I shifted my work hours today so I could go wait in line from 6 AM at my nearest LEGO Store (only 10 minutes from work). I was first in line and the second didn't come for 45 minutes. Store had 10 and we didn't get 10 in line until a little after 9.

Very excited to get home from work and take a look at this thing. Probably won't start building until tomorrow night or possibly Saturday.

after dropping below 1k, the MF is now skyrocketing on Ebay.

I guess the difficulty of ordering the thing online and in person is inflating the secondary market quite a bit. I suspect a lot of those earlier Ebay sales will be cancelled due to sellers not actually getting the item. Bye bye free VIP points.

I have a hundred dollar order from Bricklink with a status set to shipped on August 26th, but the USPS tracker never budged off of Pre-shipping. I shot the store owner a message last Friday and haven't heard anything back.

The other way around can be just as hosed, in my experience as a long-time seller on ebay. Buyers can hold you hostage despite you not being in the wrong at all, such as my experience with the empty boxes guy or the dude who thought my listing for 30 warhammer space marine combat knives listed in the toy section for 3 dollars was 30 actual real life full size military combat knives

Bought myself some "Lego" tape today. It's pretty fun, not sure what exactly I'm going to do with it though. It feels loose when you're sticking stuff to it because of the rubber but it does hold surprisingly well. Going to test it later to see how much it can hold horizontally.

Oh definitely. But Ebay is better now that the customers are protected. Back when sellers could rip off customers/mistreat customers/hold them hostage it was really bad. It's true that customers can be dicks, but it can't go both ways now. BL allows sellers to be dicks still. That's bad juju.

I think that has to be the way it goes. When the community is smaller, you have to side with the sellers, because without them, the small site will die. Then as the community gets bigger, you can side with customers, because you still have the major sellers and you can afford to lose some minor ones.

Ebay is terrible for buying specific parts, but it still beats just about everything for lots of random parts and sets. And yeah, as a buyer it feels very safe these days and most sellers have insanely fast shipping. It's like ordering off amazon prime most of the time.

The only thing I absolutely hate about Ebay is that you really have to do your homework and wade through the endless speculators to get a good deal.

I am not a vintage toy collector by any measure, so I don't have a good sense of things, but I have to admit that I am surprised that the price for the older 2007 UCS MF haven't taken a bigger dive. There's no doubt that the newer one is a superior set, and a determined buyer will be able to get it at retail price by early next year if not before. Who is paying $3K for 10179 now that the newer one is out?

My wallet and marriage are both healthier because I am not into Star Wars lego.
I am getting tempted by the Parisian Restaurant (10243) modular though.
My bricklink wanted list has like $800 of parts in it right now, and I have done well not to pull the trigger on any of it lately.

I picked up another box of mixed sets from Letgo for $45 a few months ago. Not as great a deal as that last $50 collection (don't think I'll ever beat that). I picked it up for the #4483 AT-AT legs I saw but it had about 30 sets of different types. Besides the typical Star Wars sets it had these hockey guys and Mars Mission sets. The real kicker is this Dino Attack chopper, the thing is massive. Don't think I'm keeping it but it was fun rebuilding it.
