Isn't it the official position of the Catholic Church that science is cool and good? I know the Vatican has said as much re: evolution, and I can't imagine that they're actually officially antivax. So no, lady, it's not against your religion. You're using your religion as an excuse for your lovely parenting.

Catholic morality is not as clear cut and radical as many people think. Intent is the biggest deciding factor in such matters. Even some operations that lead to defacto abortion are sometimes permitted as long as the goal is not to abort the baby, but to save the mother.

And then there are points where they are stupidly rigid, like their opposition to condoms, even as STD prevention tool.

Benedict XVI has made headlines when he said that it would be okay for a male prostitute to use condoms, because he's responsible for his clients' well-being. So at least on a personal level, if you fail to stay chaste, using a condom is the least you can do. Contraception is also alright, when it's a side-effect, for example, of female hormone tablets. Then again if there is one thing you definitely don't want wiggle room in, it's in condoms Bad jokes aside, I was thinking of the controversy with the knights of Malta, but apparently it wasn't necessarily just about the condoms. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/25/vatican-condom-row-pope-prevails-as-knights-of-malta-chief-resigns But now that you mentioned it, I do seem to recall the example you are giving. Anyways, this poo poo happened so I'll shut up about it.

Fathis Munk posted:Then again if there is one thing you definitely don't want wiggle room in, it's in condoms Yes, the controversy here was not about personal opinions or choices of people, but about spending ecclesial money on distributing condoms that would in most cases be used outside of exceptional cases. I can see why people may disagree with that approach, and even find it harmful, but there is an important difference.

Unfortunately the mother didn't survive whatever horrific medical condition causes ingested medication to be transferred directly and unabsorbed to her womb, and that smug-rear end baby learned that the religious folks don't really care about him once he's outside his mom. Sorry kiddo, here's hoping you were born in at least a moderately socialist country so you have somewhat of a chance

I mean I would probably have responded the same way. Life is too short to care what some Tinder rando thinks of your hobbies. You think video games are a dealbreaker, that's your loss, 'cause I'm a loving delight.

Oldie but a Goodiehttps://www.reddit.com/r/offmychest/comments/1fl2xd/my_stepdaughter_wants_her_real_dad_to_give_her posted:My step-daughter will be getting married on August 3rd. The wedding planning has consumed most of her and her mother's life (I say her mother because we aren't married, though we've lived together for 10 years) for the past six months. This story is from four years ago and obviously the OP never followed up (cuz it's fake). It is fun for me to read through this and try to pinpoint what actually happened. I mean, the bride in this scenario is the guy's girlfriend's daughter. He's not married. He has no skin in the game but he is expecting royal treatment from her at the wedding. It's a little sad that he apparently considers himself this girl's dad, and she doesn't at all, but then again he's probably a goonie goonie goon that just plays videogames all day instead of trying to foster some sort of relationship. So I bet that he offered to pay for college out of some misguided chivalry, the bride said either yes or no, and due to that this dude thinks he has bought his way into being her dad. He even explicitly states that he never officially said he would pay for the wedding, which means that he is reading into the whole thing.

Rodan + Fields is a pyramid scheme started by the women who crea Proactiv, just FYI. Her "skincare business" is desperately hawking overpriced hand lotion to anyone naive enough to stop and listen to her sales/recruitment pitch for a company that draws people in with promises of six-figure income "being your own boss" in which 90% of the "consultants" make less than $200 per month, and 44% made literally nothing last year. Only 2% even make minimum wage or higher. I guarantee she is not actually getting a free Lexus from the lotion hustling company.
