Most drugs are actually quite easy to make in a lab environment with precursors. The problem comes from trying to go for novel/low yield synthesis routes, which then introduces the difficulty since you need to properly know your poo poo (or Breaking Bad in South Florida happens) or be highly practiced in lab techniques (respectively). For an example of the latter: going from catechol to whatever MDxx you want. Rigged Death Trap has a new favorite as of 15:29 on Sep 8, 2017 |

Reverse lookup of fire diamond numbers is discouraged for anything besides novelty because they can be based on mixture, preparation, or combined inventory in what would be one approachable unit during a fire, ie like my favorite example of my local Walmart having a 3,2,3 diamond or something silly on the outer wall.

After a long drive, googling the hazmat numbers of all the trucks you've seen is a funtime activity. Two best I've seen so far were 1049 and 2977.

Someone in this thread recommended the iOS app "What's In That Truck" which basically does the same thing. It's great. I live near a pretty major military base, so looking up the hazmat numbers is always particularly fun here. The most one I think I've seen is UN 2190. Compressed oxygen difluoride, used as an oxidizing agent in rocket fuel. Gyro Zeppeli has a new favorite as of 00:28 on Sep 10, 2017 |

I'm not aware of any rocket engines that actually use OF2, they gave it up as a bad idea in the 1950s (it's even more miserably poisonous than fluorine without delivering noticeably better performance, impossible to handle, very expensive, etc.).

Watching the video that North Korea released of their latest Hwasong-12 launch, I thought it was nice that they've colour-coded the exhaust clouds the international standard orange-brown of HOLY gently caress DO NOT BREATHE THIS IN Wikipedia says the fuel is quote:Hypergolic combination of unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) as fuel, and either Dinitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) or red fuming nitric acid (RFNA) as oxidizer Given that combination, anyone want to figure out what fun stuff you'd find in the exhaust plume?

The main nasty thing is unreacted n2o4; even in the tanks it naturally decomposes into 2x no2, which is highly toxic and the source of the orange color. RFNA also gives off no2 fumes, hence why it's hard to determine which they're using. There's various products of incomplete combustion in there too, but no2 and friends (good old NOX emissions) are probably the biggest concern.

Its not that exotic in the end, Hydrazine is still a hydrocarbon and Nitric Acid is still Oxygen, but with a loving spoonfull of holy Lord Nitrogen thrown in. Because why not, you know?
