She fought a Royal Navy task group and suffered the first attack by a self-propelled torpedo. She won one battle against Chile, but was captured in the next. She fought against her original owners and helped win the naval war. And then, oh yes, stolen by rebels again. The Chilean Navy was on the rebel side so Huascar was used for prosaic things like shore bombardment and convoy escort instead of more piracy. She still exists and I'd love to head south to see her some day. mllaneza fucked around with this message at 03:53 on Sep 13, 2017 |

drat you! I hope you sink! Their long range bombers take out a plane. It's blow planes up on the ground day! We find a couple more victims. We take a hit from a sniper. It looks like we found some ships with planes on them – 6 destroyed on the ground. A sub! Mwha ha ha.

The Yamato and the Musashi together DO make a pretty large target, but 10k feet is still a bit silly.

I'd honestly think whatever algorithms they use for calculated bomb hits would have been changed years ago, because level bombers being as accurate as they are in-game really is ridiculous. Yes, huge portions of Japan's fleet and merchant marine were sunk by air attack, but the vast majority was by carrier aircraft and their landbound equivalents, or by light/medium bombers doing very low altitude attack runs and/or skip bombing - not 4-engine heavy bombers. And those ships that were victim to heavy bombers were generally those in port during heavy raids.

We get hits on another enemy sub. Oh look, we do have subs. Did. It's a sub day. Our Bettys go out. I take another crack at a enemy unit. Sometimes the subs come out in waves. Only one today though, that's not bad.

Another ship takes a hit. We find a couple of light cruisers. This is a nice kill. Another plane is brought down by flak. Again, the spirited defence on day 1 cannot be sustained by Chinese troops. Nothing on the kill board yet.

Take that you bugger. Nope. Not here either. We bring down a liberator. Then a second. The Betty's get another hit. Then the carriers take out a troop ship. I've hit this one before. We finish off the last of the enemy at Taiyaun. A nice day for us! Shame I didn't get the Growler confirmed.

The battleships storm into Noumea harbour. Three more go down. They slam shells into the island afterwards. Another group of Bettys go out, it looks like replacements are getting out in good numbers now. Which is a good thing. I think I still need more fighters though! Crap, they have a carrier! An escort by the size, but it still hurts! We take a hit from a sub. A good day until the end there. This is good. This, not so much. But it shouldn't be fatal. There are no fires, which is good.

Oh god. They'll be back tomorrow, so I hope you have CAP up over your battleships. Also, do you have to be in Noumea's hex in order to bombard? I thought you could do it from an adjacent hex. And also also, maybe simultaneously do a troops-based bombardment?

Suppose that the Yamato could always be sunk by B-17's.. And we should make a tally I suppose? On each day if Grey can shoot down more B-24's/29's than he loses ships?

My bad, Yamato was the one that ate some torps. have her and Nenohi bombard and have the rest chase down the carriers, her speed is a hindrance to the rest of the task force.

Leperflesh posted:Oh god. You have to be able to enter the hex in order to bombard it, but I believe it's possible to craft your orders in such a way that the TF will sail in, do their thing, and then sail out and be out of the hex (the actual distance depends on TF speed) within the same inter-turn processing. It's also the case that a TF must specifically be set as a Bombardment mission TF in order to bombard, and that setting them in this way makes them weaker at surface combat. It just didn't matter in the specific case of those three cargo ships that they encountered since they were so small.

We take a hit, but the escorts score big and get us some revenge. One of our patrol boats gets taken out. This one makes a surface attack – I don't have enough escorts for everyone! I've got a captured GI who keeps saying all is good here and could they send in another unprepared wave of troops. It seems to be working so far. We lose a bunch more Bettys to the CAP. An afternoon wave gets a hit though. Our carrier based planes also make it through. Curses. A dud. I'd like to use this picture as proof my subs ARE out there! We lost a whole load of planes again. And a base somewhere. Only an old kill for us today.

Wham! Take that you! That might even be enough to finish her! I have to assume they are short of ammo after the bombardment. Our ship tries again, but is hit by the escorts. We lose some more bombers trying to take out another light cruiser. I have no idea what these guys are doing here. They hit Magwe at night and take out a plane. Another day of heavy air losses, at least there is another wounded light cruiser out there! Neither of these are fully confirmed. Sorry for the sporadic posts, the kid has Chickenpox!

With an unescorted convoy that size, you might as well close to secondary range, or even machine gun range, even if the big guns are out of ammo.
