Anyone watching the Emmy's right now? I know we kind of tired of comedians taking Trump to task, but it was hilarious. They even got Sean Spicer to come out and take a dump on him in a surprise guest appearance. They mock the fact he never got an emmy saying "unlike the presidency, the emmy goes to the winner of the popular vote."

Even though it is objectively pointless, it was hilarious.

It's going to kind of suck if Harris or whoever wins in 2020 not because of an Obama like run or because people are tired of Trumpism, but because Trump just wasn't racist enough for some people and his base ends up less mobilized.

The thing is Trumps base doesn't matter. And it's something people have issues coming to terms with.

The man won with less then Romney lost with. He didn't bring out a huge upswell of Republican support. He didn't rejuvenate a dying party. In fact the NeverTrumpers actually fulfilled their end of the bargain, and something like 5-10% of Republicans didn't show up to vote for his rear end.

The only reason he is in office right now is because Hillary wasn't able to motivate Democratic voters. Dems chose to stay home, either because they didn't like Hilary, or didn't think they'd need to vote for Hilary off polls/"my conscience!". Mixed in with the failure to engage Midwestern Dem voters ( which skew heavily socialist, see stuff like DFL for a great example ) which caused poor turnout, and even led to many of them switching to Trump ( because he at least spoke to them about the dying rural Midwest, which Hilary didn't even bring up. ).

Of that Trump voting bloc that got him into office? Between 10-20% of it was moderates/angry rural voters that weren't racist, they just chose to ignore those facts. Now that it's evident, they are VERY against the rise of Nazism/Racism in America, and most definitely will not be voting for cheeto benito in round 2. They've gone completely. This is how his approval went from 60% to capping out around 35%.

I mean gently caress, look at loving Ossoff. Same issue happened there. He -won- a Republican stronghold voting bloc of his area. Republican turnout was stagnant across the board. But he lost because he wasn't able to turn out Dems in anything resembling decent numbers, or even the numbers Dem turnout had in previous elections. Had he had both the Dem turnout the region got previously PLUS the depressed Republican turnout he'd have easily won the district. He got only 3/4ths of the Dem turnout as the last Dem running for the region.

We need to stop giving a single gently caress about the Trump base. It's not large enough to accomplish anything, and us clutching our pearls about them every time news comes up is pointless. What the party actually needs to be focusing on is why Dem turnout has been so awful recently, and getting people out voting again.

It isn't a "choice to stay home" when Republicans strip your name from voter rolls, or require an ID you don't have, or just make sure Democratic polling stations are dramatically under-manned so the wait to vote is five times longer, etc. etc. etc.

Hillary won the popular vote by several million. But voters in specific key areas of the country have been targeted and marginalized.

Same thing happened with Ossoff, imho. It isn't the motivation, it's the manipulation.

That was a presidential election. The special election was never going to get as much turnouut, no matter how much money the parties pumped into it.

So how much did you raise your charitable giving last time you got a tax cut or a raise? My guess would be zero.

Nice to see they are normalizing a man that stood up in front of the nation every day and vomited up blatant lies, one after the other. Spicer should have already been hanged by now for his choices. Instead he will get a book deal and probably a bunch of other rewards, make a few million, and be perfectly fine for the rest of his life while millions of others suffer.

Is there a good go-to report that provides details and numbers on this? Never really seen anything that provides concrete information regarding this other than the one-off local news reports or a 2-second long video of people standing at a voting center. Triple brownie points for something that shows it by county, especially in the ones that Clinton lost.

The White House has said a five-year-old boy was detained for more than four hours and reportedly handcuffed at an airport because he posed a “security risk”.

In a press briefing, Mr Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer was unrepentant about the incident.

He said: “To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong.”

Yeah it seems like everyone I know knew about them and hated it(I didn't really like it either, but hey, she's a politician). They took a lot of browbeating and most only voted for her in the end because I made it clear that Trump had a legitimate chance at being elected (thank you fivethirtyeight).
