I didn't have the rounds or know what I was getting in to! It may have just been I had a very weak chosen since she was weak to melee and I'm more of a melee focused player.

Prior to WotC you just lost income from the region, I don't know how/if that's changed. It meant that I pretty much always skipped the first retaliation because the penalty was not worth the risk of losing my A-team.

My first Chosen stronghold mission was a nightmare. I went after the Assassin first. She was a Mechlord. I did not have Bluescreen Rounds. So I ended up fighting like a dozen Heavy MECs the hard way.

Grenadiers are absurdly useful lategame. Give em the perception PCS, a superior scope, and tracer rounds and they will absolutely destroy everything on their path. Sectopods in particular get deleted by chain shot its great

I'm considering letting the final Chosen assault me because I built and upgraded this stupid defense matrix and by god I am going to use it.

Also because I'm victory lapping so hard I haven't even done the blacksite yet so what the hell else am I going to do. The game's stopped building new alien facilities, it caps at 5 I guess, but because of covert ops and that one order I'm at like 8 pips and decreasing.

I don't know if I want to do Legendary because god drat the game takes long enough as it is now (though it's all super fun I kind of want the campaign to be over so I have a fresh start), but I think Commander Grim Horizon might be a blast.

Found a new strategy for the Chosen facility assault map but I don't know how reliable it is to replicate. Very early on, there was an andromedon in a muton-heavy pod I killed except for the andromedon husk that I hoped my templar would tank on the enemy turn. Instead of that, the husk retreated back to an unactivated pod, applying acid and burning the hell out of them. Then, for some reason, it kept on retreating all the way back to the elevator room, pretty much mapping the area and soloing acid-vulnerable pods along the way.

Maybe you need to kill the ruler with an overwatch shot while it runs to the gate.

There's a couple Avenger defense maps actually, and even the most punitive one (the one with the plateau in the center) still has the turrets positioned such that they can squadsight fire on the turret-trucks.

Not worthless at all.

jeez it might be worth skipping that mission then, although it would delay the all important 5 man squad. Its just such a loving roadblock. And if you roll 3 pods and one faceless (as opposed to 2 pods and 2 faceless) the mission might as well be impossible on legendary

He wasn't even wrong, Dragunova and two Sharpshooters made that a non-issue.

So my continent bonus was the improved labs one and at first I thought that I had the worst luck. However considering just how much research you end up doing with breakthroughs and all that I am really appreciative of the added research boost, especially when I got a breakthrough to both storm guns and plasma cannons one after the other.

For skirmishers I have been having a lot of success with giving them ap rounds.

Actually, if you're using the community-made XCOM2 Mod Launcher, you can edit the files for any given mod within the program itself at the bottom, too. Cannot recommend using it enough: https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher/releases/tag/v1.2.1

Tracers for me, at least until you start loving racking up those free moves and free actions as they level up. For the same reason, SPARKs should be modded to get a utility slot or ammo pocket and use them as well, because gently caress yeah, SPARKs shooting 3 times with accuracy in a single turn. Same trick I used with LW2 on Rangers.

With all their movement I trust my skirmishers to be accurate enough to not worry about an extra +10 to hit on the ammo slot. I much rather have something that compensates for their mediocre damage. Out of curiosity, is there any way to increase the electric whip damage?

It does. They already have the second highest base aim in the game after Sharpshooters, tied with the new SPARKS, and if you pump it even a little through elevation or aim PCS you have ridiculously good chances to pull people from full cover.

I don't even want to see what happens if you gain CHIM outside of a pre-coded system.

It turns out that the Weary Warriors achievement ("Complete a mission with all Tired soldiers and no casualties") means "deaths-" Injuries are fine.

You'll be down a squadful for a week, but that's still a lot easier than 0 injuries. Enjoy your 0.2% steam achievement.
