Shows like Atlanta, Master of None, Transparent, and Orange is the New Black should not be nominated in the comedy category. They aren't even trying to be that funny. I loving hate Big Bang Theory but I would nominate that before Master of None if I'm talking about shows that are trying to make you laugh.

Master of None and Atlanta are definitely comedies first, and since you only submit one episode for Emmy consideration they can easily fit in there. Transparent is for sure not though. It's just a half hour drama.

I think "Episodes" just had a line in it the other week that said something like, "You don't know what comedy is anymore. You don't need to be funny or make jokes. Just end at 30 minutes, boom, you're a comedy!"

The two episodes of Atlanta that I watched were, on the whole, really depressing but they had funny parts. Dramedy is a thing for movies so I don't see why it can't be for TV.

I don't think I laughed a single time in the last half of Master of None season 2. Really whiny and introspective though. Was the Thanksgiving episode supposed to be funny? It was just a well written dramatic episode.

I don't get Big Bang Theory. I've tried it more than once because my brother loves it, my sister loves it and my parents love it and they all say I should love it (being a colossal nerd and all) but I just don't understand it. The main guy - Sheldon - has nothing appealing about him. My mum says she likes him because he's "quirky" but he's just annoying.

I absolutely would gently caress Sheldon, he has a nice swimmers body, with broad shoulders (I know the actor is gay, oh well, this is a hypothetical) and I bet he'd be a good lay. I was titillated when he and Amy finally did the deed.

The Smiths are the greatest band ever because of the fact that Morrissey blows. Secondly, Strangeways is not a Smiths album.

Edit: My thoughts influence international politics. Twas me that jinxed Bernie. Sorry, folks.

Disco is great, and I've never understood why pop culture seems to have such a depth of hatred for it. Hating disco has become such an echo chamber that most people don't even remember why we were supposed to hate it in the first place.

The same reason people hate rap: it's cool while they are not, so they're jealous.

Those Bee Gees disco albums are definitely better than any prog rock album coming out at the same time and probably most punk albums.

Racism and homophobia were clearly a component of the original backlash but to be entirely fair, I am (hopefully reliably) informed by people who were there at the time that disco was pervasive to a degree that no other genre of music has been before or since so people just got sick of it being inescapable.

Political unbiased news reporting is intrinsically impossible so complaining about it is a waste of time.

Whenever someone complains that reporting is biased, what they're actually complaining about is that it's not biased in their side's favour.

This is true, because things like science, truth and facts have a leftist bias. Coverage on global warming is a good example of this.

Yeah but they don't care. If they did, they'd change a few things and changing things is literally the opposite of conserving them.

Similarly, I'm not convinced that any meaningful number of people actually believes in democracy or civil rights, except insofar as its suits them. Everyone, irrespective of their basic ideology, wants to have a strongman who can batter the other side down and make them shut up or go away.

Even the most ardent democrat - whether liberal, conservative or socialist - would be falling over themselves accept a dictator if they came from their side.

Yeah nah we had decades of coalition governments and most people were overall pretty happy with them.

e: I mean we still have a coalition government but it's a hard right + literal nazi coalition so it's a bit different.

I firmly believe that most people would be totally ok with a dictatorship, because like it or not a dictator gets things done and gets things done fast.

In real terms, most dictatorships are just as (if not more) incompetent or as ineffectual as any other system, but there'd be no shortage of people convinced that they're getting things done provided they're on the same side as the dictators.

Did you hear that episode of Fresh Air last week too? I can't remember the woman's name, but it was somebody that covered Trump during the campaign and, yes, decided that "having a horse in the race" would be unethical. She felt very strongly about it.

I thought it was stupid. Also that a horse would have made a comparatively excellent candidate. And I hate horses.

poo poo. Really? Source please.

Edit: Googled it. Thank you anyway. I found something funny with the sound on the first listen, and thought something was wrong. I scanned The Smiths' Wikipedia page which suggested he left the band before it was released. I figured he wasn't involved. Still, I didn't like what I heard so I'd have to hear it again. He may have composed, but did he play?
