just saying single payer is good and the details don't matter is silly it's gonna need higher taxes and of course that's not a reason not to do it but to leave it there and accept a VAT for instance as the funding mechanism would be really dumb and so too is leaving displaced workers up to the vagaries of the market

in general, it's amusing that the same people opposing single-payer because it might cost jobs are the same ones who have cheered on slashing government employment in the name of efficiency and lowering costs the last two Dem presidencies cut the federal workforce while the last two GOP presidencies increased it. there were more government employees in 1992 than there are now. and I don't recall anyone saying "but what about the jobs" when Obama was trying to cut Social Security
