And also why are some adcs starting relics shield? Is it to give more gold to support for ardent rush?

I know the talisman coin was buffed a while back which gave lots of income to supports.

It's been strong for ages, people only picked up on it recently. It's good because it's basically giving ADCs an extra item, but the support buys it instead: by the wiki's calculations, the 25% attack speed and 25 on-hit damage is worth 1250 gold by itself, per ally that it buffs. That's on top of the already gold-efficient nature of it, since support items are costed super aggressively.

You nailed it on why some people are trying relic shield ADC. If your support has ardent and theirs doesn't, you win every fight.

History-wise: V6.22
Combine cost reduced to Gold 600 from Gold 700.
Total cost reduced to Gold 2300 from Gold 2400.
Healing and shielding power reduced to 10% from 15%.
Passive: Bonus attack speed increased to 20% from 15%. On-hit damage reduced to 20 from 30, now heals allies for 20 health.

AC didn't blow up back then because that patch also introduced all the new Duskblade on-hit proc, so adc casters that used that and the lethality items were top tier, and they best synergized with mage supports. Later patched nerfed everything about that strat: the masteries, the items, the champions; and they buffed their competitors: all crit items got cheaper, so hypercarries with coin supports ascended.

The most important change that happened was the Coin line of support quest items was buffed to generate much more gold consistently and especially when snowballing through assists, enough that rushing censer before sightstone, finishing it before 15mins became the visibly optimal strat. Punishing these lanes for their greed in the early game became harder because of the spellthief's nerfs, relic shield and the new doran's shield, and became riskier because of the assist gold granted to coin supports who upgrade to nomad's medallion.

Mechanics-wise: the value of the on-hit heal can't be understated here, especially on the hypercarries that build Runaan's Hurricane, Twitch and Kog'maw. When champs like Janna are balanced around shields' being reactive mitigation and not sustain and contributing very little damage themselves, and that expectation is subverted by allowing them to provide a high uptime sustain buff, they eliminate their weaknesses.

Also it's an aura item, which is always going to have the highest potential value if your team groups. Attack speed is the best steroid to give for objective taking too, since even AP champions add that stat to their structure damage. There's no better early game scaling quest item than coin and no better midgame spike item than censer on a champ that can activate it at will.

I dunno if I just lane against bad people but I think i've put most ardent rushers in the dirt as a supp. I've been mostly playing tankier supports lately too, the damage boost don't mean poo poo if they're cc'ed the whole fight.

Twitch is probably the only exception and even then it more feels like that is due to his kit being so good and gold/low plat people being bad about playing around invisibility.

cc doesn't mean poo poo if you're peeled for the whole fight, and most ardent censer supports can do that.

the best support is everyone on the team but me, the adc. everyone on the team should be helping me at every opportunity and if they dont see me on screen should be asking "where's the ADC?" unless im farming a side lane, when they should be supplying me with vision.
