Tensions in the NSW Greens have boiled over spectacularly, with Newtown MP Jenny Leong storming out of a party room meeting on Monday after reportedly yelling "F--- you!" at colleague David Shoebridge. Fairfax Media understands the clash was related to concerns over Mr Shoebridge's more prominent appearance in the media across portfolio areas following the death of senior Greens MLC John Kaye last year from cancer. The NSW Greens do not formally appoint a leader but Mr Shoebridge is their longest serving current MP. Asked about the incident, Ms Leong and Mr Shoebridge declined to comment on party-room discussions. Joining Ms Leong in the walk out was MLC Mehreen Faruqi, who is challenging Senator Lee Rhiannon for pre-selection on the Greens NSW Senate ticket. Ms Faruqi did not respond to a request for comment. Mr Shoebridge is close to Senator Rhiannon and both are linked to the "left renewal" faction active in the Newtown electorate. The blow up was so widely discussed that it was brought to Fairfax Media's attention by a Labor source. The skirmish comes as Mr Shoebridge and his fellow upper house MLC Jeremy Buckingham prepare to fight it out for pre-selection at the top of the Greens NSW Legislative Council ticket for the 2019 election. It continues a tumultuous couple of years for the NSW Greens, plagued with factional infighting at both a state and federal level. Two bitterly fought NSW upper house pre-selections have highlighted deep divisions between between the Mr Shoebridge's hard left faction and centrists like Mr Buckingham and federal leader Richard Di Natale. Last year Dr Kaye's widow launched an extraordinary public intervention against the selection of Justin Field, who is close to Mr Buckingham. In July this year Senator Rhiannon was temporarily suspended from the federal party room over her opposition to the Turnbull government's Gonski 2.0 school funding package. Senator Rhiannon came under fire for authorising a leaflet from a local Greens group campaigning against the reform package, while Senator Di Natale was negotiating with the government. But Senator Rhiannon denied doing anything wrong and declared she was "disappointed in Richard's leadership

Dear Muppet, The comment was in the context of comparing the ALP to the East German government1. The LNP (In broadly supporting universal health care) is also arguably socialist2, democratic or otherwise. So unless you were making a subtle but unfunny joke I hope you can learn the meaning of context and discourse to assist in your future posting career. Yours (etc.) [1] quote:FINANCE Minister Mathias Cormann has likened Bill Shorten’s economic policies to those of communist East Germany’s. quote:The Turnbull Government is committed to providing Australians with world class health care.

Anybody who 'thinks the Nos are going to win' need to start being part of the campaign however they can. Preferably soon, there's massive diminishing returns since people are actually pretty prompt on returning their votes. Partly, you should do this because it actually raises your spirits pretty considerably to see that everyone's actually pretty cool about it. Partly, do it because you'll feel like you did your part. But mostly, do it so you're not shouting into the wind with neither grounding for your predictions or an answer to 'well what are you doing about it?'

fiery_valkyrie posted:Where did this 76 genders, or however many it is, come from? I had never heard it before this. There's a number of catchphrases going around that strawman the social justice movement, or joke as if a concept (like a gender spectrum) cannot be real. They spread very well on reddit A while ago there was a PYF thread making fun of bronies, tvtropes and teens being idiots on tumblr. I don't know how long the tumblr thing goes back, but the thread focus was people who were into the concept of social justice but were totally clueless and incredibly zealous. One of their behaviours in uh, trying to define themselves I guess? (teens) was making up names for increasingly complex and bizarre gender identities. So '1000 genders'. I heard subreddit r/tumblrinaction was founded to make fun of those teens too but for a few years it's been used by right-wingers to tar the entire left with the 'SJW' brush The article also has the 'purple haired' and 'x lives matter' catchphrases. Coloured hair is fashionable among young people - no poo poo - but to these people it means feminists. It's paired with 'REEEEE' which I think means 'autistic screeching' but also means 'feminist/SJW screeching'

so now we're in the post-truth age where the right wing media can just say whatever the gently caress they want and have it unquestioningly accepted by a majority of the population (i know this was always the case but the past twelve months have removed all the lip service pretenses to the contrary and they're just going to get more and more brazen from here on in) what's the plan for the left? do we have to make up our own bullshit? is this going to turn into a storytelling competition? or do we need to just start killing people already

when i worked in the gourmet section of david jones a customer freaked out at me because i hadn't personally taste-tested every single brand of pudding, of which there were at least ten, and couldn't compare/contrast them for his benefit. he told me that i should be using my employee discount to buy samples of each and have them tested by my family so i can provide the informed service he expects from david jones. i didn't say that the employee discount is only 10% and some of the puddings cost seventy bucks because we weren't allowed to tell customers that, but i did tell him my family are jewish; he said that was no excuse and i wished him a happy hanukkah and he stormed out

my customers never knew how lucky they were, at the time i was being paid permanent part-time rates to work under casual conditions (no sick leave, no holidays, and i generally found out when i was working ten minutes before my shift was due to start) and because it was christmas and djs has a "no religious carols" policy i was having to listen to various has-beens doing overwrought orchestral frosty the snowman covers about eight times per hour and i was perilously close to the point where i might begin to dance and bottles of jagermeister would fly out of my anus at supersonic speed, shattering and causing innumerable deaths as the sleighbells jingled, jingled, jingled over the screams and snapping of bones
