Even though Heppell was at the unvail of the AFL "yes" sign yesterday, I'm disappointed Essendon come out with an unequivocal YES statement. But I'd be far more disappointed and angry if they came out with a half assed statement like Carlton which screams the same message as Turnbull "we want to support YES but only if it doesn't hinder us in any way, shape or form".

Carlton said they support the campaign but not enough to unequivocally say yes, which is pretty poor form given we have the Australian sex discrimination comissioner (kate jenkins) as a board member. Plus we have multiple players in our womens team who are openly gay and many players from the mens and womens sides already showing support over the past few months, the club should have backed them up. At least the supporter pride group accepts the clubs position: https://twitter.com/PRIDECARLTON/status/910423644928479232

Pretty sure this is just a typo from thepokey and they mean "hasn't"; the article I read today listed only: Dogs, Roos, Pies, Swans, and Saints as the only teams who've made a statement for YES. Most clubs are silent, Carlton is actively poo poo.

I'm gay and I gotta say I admire the extreme bravery of anyone willing to share that they are pro SSM in 2017 when the majority of people already agree with you. Thank you, AFL. You're as loyal to the cause as all of the Richmond fans who've recently jumped on their bandwagon. I can only hope that as it's gets even easier to advocate for SSM and even more people support it, the AFL will become even more outspoken. Brave.

loving hell some of the Facebook comments by people who think: - The AFL has gone week for supporting the "poofters". Bonus points for when others point out to them that nearly every major sporting league in Australia has supporting the Yes vote, making the moron even more upset. - People who think it is an attack on religion - "Why is the AFL getting political?" as if marriage equality is a political issue - Arseholes who openly post images of people dressed up in dildos or putting up same sex porn and saying this will be commonplace after the Yes vote

I suppose Ben Brown isn't wearing any North logos because his club also wants to avoid an association with the "yes" vote, right? Oh, wait... NMFC posted:"The North Melbourne Football Club writes to express its support for marriage equality..." My point is that it's a little unfair to read into Clarko's lack of club logos on his outfit when nobody at the photoshoot is wearing any club logos. Including people who come from clubs that have communicated their absolute support of SSM in no uncertain terms.

061469 posted:I suppose Ben Brown isn't wearing any North logos because his club also wants to avoid an association with the "yes" vote, right? Maybe, but to me that whole photo screams "the opinion expressed here is that of the individual, and not necessarily that of their organisations!" Ben not wearing colours only reinforces that. Clarkson is rarely seen in a media photo op without Hawthorn colours on. That makes it noticeable (conspicuous). I don't know why you're so annoyed that people and organisations are coming out in support of SSM now, while the topic is in the spotlight. I don't see why it is bad to declare support for it now just because you hadn't explicitly done it already.
