Psi water quest is great because it lets you turn most of the psi hypos you find into neuromods instead

I finally finished this last night. I got the I and Thou achievement, even though I wasn't expressly trying for it. I want to do No Needles and Split Affinity next, and I do not want to cheese the split affinity by just reloading a no needles save before the end. I want to actually play through with Typhon/Human only powers. But that's 3 more playthroughs. I have 39 hours on my first. I did take my time to read every note and email, and did a lot of exploring, so I'm sure subsequent ones will be a lot quicker. Like if I beeline the main quest and ignore side stuff, but the whole point of playing again is to see stuff I didn't the first time. So I don't know...we'll see how deep I get before moving on to something else. Anyway, great game. I loved it. Now, having never played a System Shock game, and having SS2 in my steam library, I want to give that a try. I read somewhere that there are some mods out there that make it more pleasant to play in a modern age. Anybody know what those might be?

I didn't find SS2 to be terribly clunky. SS1, yes, that put me off for years, even on the enhanced edition. SS2 you'll need to rebind some keys and it'll take a couple levels to get used to, but once you're beyond that it doesn't function terribly differently from a modern game.

I don't mind bad graphics at all. I'd just remembered for the 20 minutes I did try to play SS2, the controls being weird. As long as they're rebindable, I'll be happy, I'm sure. Also, Typhon only run is going to be rough. No suit upgrades, plus not being able to repair the broken recyclers means I can't pick up every last piece of trash or food I see. I am enjoying it, though. Can't remember the last time I started a game over immediately after beating it. Usually I look at my backlog and uninstall. skeletronics fucked around with this message at 17:59 on Sep 21, 2017 |

You'd be surprised how little inventory space you actually need when you realize you don't need most of those weapons or ammo, and you only need scrap that contributes to making more neuromods. What really sucks is that you can't upgrade your goddamn psi stats since those are considered human upgrades!

SS2 worked fairly reasonably from what I recall. Although I still haven't finished it, it had nothing to do with controls. Yeah what the hell was that thing. I came across it recently as well.

ladron posted:I'm looking for something to fill the gap after this and dishonored. Does anyone have any opinions about Metro Redux, since it kinda seems to be a horror/shooter/rpg too? Metro 2033/Last Light Redux are mostly linear post-apocalyptic shooters, not a whole lot in common with Prey beyond the perspective. They're not really scary (unless you're afraid of spiders) but they do have amazing atmosphere. 2033, even after the "redux," still carries a lot of the jank that the original release had but Last Light is the best Half-Life 3 you're going to playing until the next Metro game comes out. Playing 2033 first helps but you can get enough just by reading the Wikipedia entry and knowing that Last Light follows the "bad" ending. 2033 is still worth playing just be prepared to put up with some quirks.

STALKER is probably your best bet for horrorish shooter with RPG mechanics, which makes a lot of sense as key figures in the Metro dev team joined 4A after developing Shadow of Chernobyl.

I really wish the suit got better like your health and psi, because keeping it patched up really does become an afterthought especially when you're crashing around at 300hp. Gimme an upgrade tree that gives it a bigger bar, improved protection, anything.

I just chalked it up to the suit being a purely civilian application, since Alex very explicitly wanted zero military hardware on his station.

Metro is great but it's a half life-esque atmospheric linear FPS instead of an 0451 kind of thing like prey I haven't played redux but someone who did told me that its "survival" mode uses 2033's balance and its "spartan" mode uses last light's, which means 2033 is too easy on spartan and last light is too hard on survival because it wasn't balanced around that

How in the heck do you get your Phantom Genesis phantoms to follow you? I just made a phantom, went into a room, and barely won a fight because my phantom wasn't there with me. Lo and behold, the stupid thing refuses to step through a doorway. There isn't even a door there, it just won't step through the door-shaped hole in the wall. I would just go over there and physically push it through, except it is a Voltaic Phantom and the place it refuses to leave is the top of a metal staircase, which it is electrifying. Is there a way to call it, or should I just kill the drat thing? EDIT: Okay, forget that, I just killed the thing. Let me describe what's happening now, because it really summarizes both of my biggest problems with the game. I have entered the crew quarters for the first time and there is a Nightmare in there. Okay, fine. I like a challenge. Here's the thing. First of all, whenever it kills me, I don't understand how. Did it shoot something at me? Did it stomp me? Did one of the mind controlled humans get me? I have no idea, because if I wasn't looking at the thing that killed me, there's no way of knowing. How hard would it be to have the game over screen say something like "GAME OVER: You were smashed flat by a Nightmare." This is a recurring problem; I would say that I cannot fully explain more than 30% of my deaths so far. The reason this is such big issue is because I can't get better at not dying to things if I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Like, should I get the perk that reduces electricity damage? I don't know, because I'm not sure whether electric damage has killed me two times or ten times. The other issue is that while I am fighting this thing, there is a man saying something. What is he saying, you ask? I do not know, and I will never know. I literally cannot make out his words above the sound of Nightmare noises and explosions, and I sure as hell can't read subtitles and fight at the same time. Once again, this wouldn't be very hard to fix. Just make it so that people don't talk to you until the monsters are dead! I am very frustrated right now, and I'm sorry if that is coming through in the tone of my post. However, I feel like I need to put this out there because I haven't really heard anything negative about this game on the forums. Everything I've read says that it is a fantastic game, ten out of ten, a real hidden gem. It's not a bad game, of course. The systems are all very robust and polished. It's just that the gameplay experience as a whole can be frustrating in a way that I really don't think was intended. Basically, I think that people who really like System Shock games are letting their enthusiasm for this one smooth over some of the rough edges. Despite some absolute fuckwit completely spoiling the ending in here, unmarked, I enjoyed how the game responded to my actions - even if the final bit felt a little rushed. One question though, I knocked Dahl out after wiping out pretty much every single one of his operators along with Kaspar, but the security chief still bitched at me because "lots" of people got killed by them. Given every survivor except three were in the cargo bay with her that felt a little annoying...
