I kind of want to pick up War of the Chosen and there are some good 15% off deals for it right now. But I can't really find anything substantial for the Season Pass DLC pack so I would have to pay at least $15 for it.

That is kind of keeping me away from getting anything because of FOMO. Please tell me if the DLC is good enough to get at that price, or alternatively, if it is bad enough that I am not missing out and should just get WOTC

Anarchy's Children is some really bad dressup parts and Alien Hunters has a very ... mixed reception, to put it generously.

Vanilla + WotC is perfectly fine. Shen's Last Gift is decent but SPARKs are just a touch too expensive (in-game, I mean) for what they bring to the table.

Alien Hunters + WOTC gives you some new items to build that are :effort: and 3 big monsters to pester you that are basically like the beta version of the Chosen. Shen's Last Gift + WOTC lets you build SPARKs and that's it, and SPARKs are nice but also stupid expensive in the game.

I actually like the dress up DLCs better, as silly as they are.

I think the person you're talking to here is talking about the Spectre thing, the cloud that's a person that "kills" a unit and brings it back as on their side.

And I paid £7.99 for the lot of the DLC and it definitely wasn't worth it. War of the Chosen is expensive but at least it feels like it brings a decent amount of things into the game. Alien Rulers and SHEN are just annoying for no reason at all.

Did overwatch aim get nerfed? I've read about its current stats on the Wiki but I don't remember missing shots this much in vanilla. It's painful when you spring a great ambush and all these idiots miss the mark.

Overwatch has always had a penalty, but Overwatch (Concealed) shouldn't. If you're missing shots there, it's just lovely luck, probably.

don't be like me and install custom skin mods without checking whether it changes the models themselves first because apparently that will just gently caress your poo poo right up when everyone upgrades to plate armor and turn into Raymen with floating arms or torsos that don't connect with the legs and apparently you can never uninstall it even when you turn it off in the dlc menu so you have to spend 20 minutes fixing your soldiers one by one.

It's annoying that when I just want to make my guys look like tacticool operators my only options are "MODELS FROM SIEGE/COD/MGS" packs that do nothing but break things. They either look like Rayman like you said or black textures. The only decent ones I've found are the Grim Style Armor (which just changes where camo is applied to make it make more sense on the standard armor) and the Section 9 pack (Ghost in the Shell armor, surprisingly good looking).

I want to like Stenchfury's modular armor packs, but I never end up using them because they just look like chunky off-brand Master Chief with constant clipping through itself. Although it's funny when rookies show up with random helmet parts from it.

Swords are great with upgrades and new abilities and useful when your shotgun hit % is low.

I know people say SPARKs are too expensive but I just feel like they haven't used one as a point man with that "33% chance to take a reaction shot against uncovered enemies" perk. I've marched a SPARK into a pod and watched as it systematically destroyed every enemy inside of that pod and holy poo poo it's just so good. Also they never get tired and Overdrive is also loving strong. Shooting the warlock in the face three times on your turn is also very good. (Or twice and a rocket, to offset the stacking aim penalty.)

Because they're a bit poo poo compared to every other soldier and it costs a fuckton to upgrade them.

It's worth having the free one from Shen's Last Gift and one other at least as an emergency backup if something catastrophic happens but I rarely use them. Does the price on the first SPARK drop if you integrate the dlc?

Sparks are more robust than regular soldiers in every conceivable way. I wouldn't make a team of them and I doubt anyone has ever suggested that. Having one is enough and worth it. All they lack is a PCS and item slot.

Agreed entirely. I used one to be mobile cover + lots of free Overwatch + Overdrive murder + Always being there. Like, I had one go a dozen missions in a row.

The Lost really do bog things down late game. Sometimes they move as a swarm and it totally works, but then something happens and the AI can't do them all at once and you have to watch every one of 10 zombies move a couple meters forward and stop.

Just did my first Chosen the other night. Three turn KO on the Hunter from when we dropped into his chamber, and that was with me forgetting that the first codex you skullmine drops an Avatar on you. Ironman commander and the victory lap phase is satisfying but man do I fell OP.

My only real regret in this run is not planning my bonds well. My PSI, Templar, and Skirmisher are all bonded with grenadiers and i can justify taking two of those along because they're death machines but three heavies is kinda too many. PSI - Templar - Skirmisher - Heavy - Heavy - Specialist is my A team and I wish I had a ranger in there.

This pack (and its tons of dependencies) will make your guys look very tacticool and don't break models horribly in my experience. They do eat up a lot of RAM though.

They only get one skill per level. They don't use Xcom points, which could be a pro or con.

Honestly, bulwark is good but I prefer adaptive aim. "Defense through offense" kind of thing. Using sparks for cover is good but there is the edge case of getting grenaded that you have to worry about it. Plus, my sparks usually hold a flank alone while the rest fight in a different direction. A lot of enemies will shoot past the spark. Its weird but then you flank them and clean up. Its pretty hard to get advent to target a spark when soldiers are in LOS.

is it random luck that I've had every Chosen attack every four or five missions in their turf since the last time I killed them? It seems like I can predict it fairly accurately based on that, even without the shadow chamber as a hint.

My problem with Sparks is I can't figure out a good time to roll them out on legend. Alloys are super tight in the early-mid game so building one is an issue and then you have to upgrade its gear too. You could make one later but then it shows up vastly underlevled. I really miss the free spark you used to get.

My next game I think will be Commander again but with Integrated DLC on, templar hq start (I love them the most) and grim horizon and I don't know when before the victory lap I'd even be able to scrounge the alloys, cores (my shredder guns!) and cash together for a SPARK. It'd be a huge cut into soldier upgrades, not to mention having to buy the frost grenades and shadow caster (could take or leave the bolt caster at this point, with how much else there is to play with).

Just be prepared to have six people take a nap after. My SLG mission was insanely close; the Sectopod caught me by surprise with the AP change, and the SPARK survived with 1 hp. It took 40 days to repair. :v:
