Oh man, I jumped back into this after getting WOTC+DLC after a while, Ironman Veteran, and I got lulled into a false sense of security by how easy the first month's missions were and even the retaliation mission.

Then I tried doing the rescue Mox mission and overextended because I forgot how far Stun Lancers could run and totally split up my squad and wiped. Trying to resist the urge to start over, and I know I should just keep pushing along

Edit: Welp, my panic Alt-F4 put me a turn earlier and so I managed to extract with two soldiers and the stunned one got captured. Emergent narrative

There isn't a mod to fix the constant grapple/reaper/any movement skill crashes is there? It's almost every drat time now. I don't even have any mods installed that aren't cosmetic besides the one about Brutal.

For me I had the same problem with targetting grenades with a grenadier over multilayered terrain and grappling, but after I uninstalled gotcha again it improved quite a bit. Also in my latest game, for some reason my performance/load times have been significantly better since disabling dlc integration, no friggin' clue why, I thought I had missed a patch downloading or something, but there hasn't been one.

I do have Gotcha installed, maybe it's that then. I'll uninstall it and see.

BTW I just saw a tooltip that says mission timers are suspended once XCOM engages the Chosen. Is that true? I don't think I've noticed.

Yes. The warlock/hunter loving around on the other side of the map doesn't count, they have to actually be in your vision and fighting you.

I don't understand how so many mods, even tiny or well rated ones, gently caress with XCOM to the point of generating crashes and poo poo. Is it because the game code is held together by duct tape and clips?

Kinda makes me want to play the game without any, which sucks.

I mean thats what a lot of mods do, especially ones like Gotcha or Evac All, they're constantly running extra scripts which bogs down performance and often introduces instability.

I got a weird bug. I'm not sure if it's related to my mods or not: I start off at a random place in the mission (sometimes right next to the goal) and if I move a single square I see 2+ pods. All of my dudes are also on top of the same square too... And I also see this in pods: 3 mutons were on top of the same square. My Mod list: evac all - wotc, brutal fix, defense matrix sabotage fix, color coded bonds.

That helmet but with horns + RAGE armour, primary colour black, secondary colour red, on a ranger with the axes from Alien Hunters. Give them Blademaster + Bladestorm and when you see a reinforcement flare have them stand on it.

Bladestorm.

It's accessed early, let's you hit the same guy twice with smart positioning, and bait wounded lancers/melee units into an early demise. If you're not trying to fully abuse bladestorm, just fire the shotgun.

Post-WotC? There is a sword that never misses, hits for 10-11 dmg and ignores armour. Oh, and bladestorm.

There's also the fact that swords can be used on a dash with no cooldown. Run N' Gun is a perk locked behind a few levels and has a cooldown. The main problem with sword rangers prior to WotC is that their sword perks ran opposite the stealth ones, which you really wanted for scouting. Now you have Reapers for scouting though and can take those stealth perks and the sword one if you need them. Building for swords is a lot more powerful now.

Though I fell in love with sword rangers back when i started using the boltcaster. A boltcaster ranger can excel at all distances.

I'm looking at some of the more extensive overhauls out of curiosity and sometimes I really wonder what these mod authors are thinking. A Better Advent sounds interesting but some of these enemies seems less "interesting tactical branches of existing ones" and more "harder versions that just gently caress you over". Like this;

quote:

Boas are heavy melee units that start appearing late in the campaign. They use their tongue and their Bind ability whenever they are able, even on reveal.

So you trigger a pod with one of these and it immediately gets to tongue one of your units and start crushing them. Exactly what tactical gap in the alien's arsenal is this filling? It just seems pointlessly cruel and not in an interesting way. I can only imagine how miserable it would be to get grabbed by a boa and then have it reveal another loving pod.

No, because instant evac is for quitters. I take every bad mission as a challenge!

...except for low profile and surgical site reps. I don't even bother trying those. I'd rather take a horrible dark event for a month than try to go through one of those disaster missions. I'm just praying they don't show up on my Grim Horizon run.

Should probably disable action cam though. Seeing the rend animation every time gets old fast.

It's the best OP mod. Put on some action tracks and watch as your Rangers in Khornate Berserker cosplay/Templars in Starcraft getups shredding dozens of not zombies. Plus it gives me a reason to pick Blademaster and buy the sword upgrades. Yeah the Skirmishers can sort of do that too, but I tend to use them for Stunning multiple units.

The stun on the rangers blade isn't reliable though so the improved damage from the upgrade will benefit you more most of the time. The only reason you stick with ionic ripjacks is because skirmisher's are guaranteed to proc status effects with their melee skills.
