I'm glad it's not Futurama or Archer. It's like a mix of both, but great on its own. Harmon is a loving nut. I used to listen to his podcast before the divorce from Erin McGathy, listened a few times since, but I can't stand his "everything in the form of a rap" period and that's about where he lost me.

I doubt that any cartoon will ever usurp Futurama (the original run) from the throne of smart stupid comedy, but Rick and Morty isn't too far off. Archer was really funny at first, yeah, but it shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Futurama.

I have a new line for the fragility of horses joke: "Teased an incel one too many times, had to go to the vet to have her lip sewn back on" VVVVV There's a joke which I can't find about how horses die if you look at them funny. Something like: Here lies Old Dobbin, he saw a squirrel and died. Pasquale, ate a bug and died. Clover, looked at a hole and broke her leg. Impressive, just locked up and died. Snuffles, sniffed a tin can, needed 30 stitches. Muffin, ate too much grass and her feet fell off. We have a filly who has been teasing our gelding, and kicking at him when he gets pesty. So rick & morty is a dan harmon thing. Good to know, glad to avoid it entirely now. My favorite modern cartoons were Sealab 2021, Frisky Dingo, and Metalocalypse. The Metalocalypse creator loving himself over is delightful though, dude bought into his hype & lost all rights to the property he created.  Venture Bros used to be cool, then I got tired of waiting 4 years for each new season. How is Jackie Chan still alive from 40+ years of crazy dangerous stunt work?

I'm kinda curious about that too, but I can understand some hate from when he hosed things up for himself on Community, or Sarah Silverman's show. Or any of a million things that guy does that pisses people off. Write-up update. I was just offered a better paying position, still in the warehouse, independent of the shipping bullshit. They're making an inventory management position, and I'm pretty much going to be counting, moving, and prepping the one sizable monthly order we do outside of regular orders. And a pay bump. I wonder if I would've gotten a better raise if I made a massage parlor joke instead of a blowjob joke to the half-korean coworker. Firefly was killed before the first season even finished, it was aired out of sequence, and I think at least three episodes never aired on fox. I'm not a superfan, but I liked it a lot. It's too far gone for a revival for me.

I'm not entirely against episodic movies in line with Serenity. Periodic updates if what remains of the cast agreed, but not a show run. I would support the same for Futurama. Just no more seasons or we get more Eyephone episodes.

He's also really good with introducing a world where nothing really matters (aka the main character is effectively omnipotent) and making things matter. It wouldn't work well outside of a cartoon format, and it becomes better and better over the course of several episodes once you realize it's not a one-off experience. But like everything shiny and/or funny, NERDS like it too. Beware! Anyone who can't bear to be seen liking something popular should check out a library or city board meeting. Edit: this is "Doc and Mharti", the original R&M. It's not funny. It's disgusting. Thanks for all the rick & morty explanations. Dan Harmon is extremely trainwrecky and his fan base is toxicly bad, so I try to avoid stuff he is involved with. Firefly looked like an interesting concept, the meshing of cowboys + space really didn't work out. Buffy 2500 AD & Angel 2.0 in Space was the overall vibe. Someone in the games thread linked one of Cokes rebranding for the new generation ads. Thinking the ultimate change might be Coke adding "artisanally produced" or other buzzwords to their soda labels.
