Short version:
  • OP makes a 3d printed wax comb for his surfboard and posts it.
  • Company owner (Ron) who produces a generic comb + handle (like what the OP printed) posts that the OP can't share the file or sell the printed version as Ron has a patent on it.
  • OP asks for the patent number.
  • Another company rep (Chelsea) refuses to tell them what the patent number is and has apparently both internet-detective'd the OP and made a thinly veiled threat about how he should have known better. Unfortunately by the time the page was archived this post was already deleted.
  • What she found and should have tipped her off that her post was a "very bad idea" was that the OP was actually a patent lawyer. She apparently even linked to his firm's page in the veiled threat.
  • OP delivers a massive beatdown that is in the archived link above.
  • Cue holy loving poo poo moment and deletion of a bunch of posts and the account.

edit: oh hey someone screencapped Chelsea's post!

From one of the aviation threads:

I watched that the other night (so glad it's back on TV). There's been a couple like that, where one team is like "We've thought about it, and think this counter measure *might* work, but these guys have more experience than we do and we're just happy to be here" And then they completely wreck one of the favored teams.

I'm blanking on the match, but it was a newbie team ranked almost to the bottom. They were fighting a high seed team with a wicked horizontal spinner (which have spectacularly successful). The newbies had a really heavy and wide drum spinning vertically. Thing was spinning so fast (and was heavy enough) it was making a very audible whine. Threw the odds fabvorite 10 feet in the air when they collided, which was about 200+ lbs of bot.

Hope it's not region locked. It's Son of Whyatchi vs. Poison Arrow.

Also, apparently the Science Channel is showing last years season as the current season. Huh.

Drum had a ridge so it could catch things. Since it's spinning up and back, the force of the drum is going push whatever is in front up and out while push the body of itself more firmly to the ground(so it won't go flying much itself). It also weighed a ton and was spinning really fast (you can hear it whine as it gets to speed) so it had a poo poo ton of momentum to transfer to the other bot.
