Even when you finally get the girlfriend she's not obligated to stay with you and can leave whenever without any reason. You'll be back to your entire effort of being a more functional person being meaningless (you see it's as if the casino came into your house and took back your big poker win) as you may never find a girlfriend ever again (and even if you do she can leave as well). Why invest in a poker strategy if the money can walk away through the front door whenever it feels like it. Basically nothing in life has a chance of ever happening.

I may be an idealist, but I like to think even people with severe disfigurement can have a chance if they're cool guys with good personalities. In high school bio class, we watched a documentary about people with genetic issues like dwarfism. I was surprised at the time to see that the little people portrayed in the video had active romantic lives and had no problem attracting women, including women who didn't have dwarfism themselves. I had thought theirs would be a tale of woe, but it was far from that. Maybe dwarfism is an exception because it's a trait that some find endearing or even have as a fetish...? And the same probably can't be said for all genetic mutations. So maybe it's an unfair example. But regardless, those guys were dealt a legit physical disadvantage which would cause them difficulties in everyday tasks and seemingly relegate them to a far narrower dating pool than a guy whose eye sockets were a slightly undesirable shape. Yet they were living life to the fullest and finding love.
