Heat Signature! It's 15$, there's a gun that's only available for roughly another week that you can unlock in-game, and it's really, really cool! It's accessible to all skill levels, with the pausing mechanic enabling you to think out your moves, and slow-mo kicking in when you're spotted by an enemy, but it can also be ball-breakingly tough when you hit the audacious missions and above.duckfarts posted:Heat Signature quote:just rescued strix from a rather large ship with seconds to spare. made my way through with some lucky drops and got to strix with not enough time to get back to the pod. went to the outer hull, shot a window ejecting us both and then remoted the pod to pick us up, 2 seconds before death. quote:Oh my god. The ship I was on board got attacked halfway through my mission and I realized something. quote:I've cleared a couple (and a stronghold!) so I might be able to give a couple tips. quote:loving lol heat signature is funny, somehow part of a ship blew up, I got launched out, and then I hit the side of the ship, got launched back inside, got shot twice with shotguns, hit the side of the ship AGAIN and went in through another part of the ship that got exploded and was ok. and somehow one of the guards got sucked out into space and into my pod. quote:Lorccan smash: I noticed a marked increase in success after I started pausing all the time quote:Just the other day, I was moaning about how space games never did anything new any more and immediately this game comes along and dickslaps me in the face. https://i.imgur.com/3O1YDCK.gifv quote:Rescue your friends' characters! We should probably just set up a goon group for Heat Signature so people can add each other that way.

Why sneak or fight your way through the ship and all of its guards when you can just steal another ship, fly over, and blast the section you need off and steal your objective at your leisure?

Added dmboogie and ScentOfAnOtaku to the train list - I'll try to keep it updated, but no promises. I think my favorite heist so far has been with an extreme-range rechargeable key cloner and a self-recharging sidewinder. I didn't need to fight or clonk anyone when I could just teleport past everyone, open the doors I needed, and continue until I found my target.

Mind, I still managed to get that guy caught, but considering the rampage he managed once he got loose, I figure it's going to be pretty handy for anyone who finds it.

And for my next trick, I'll pilot a ship to the target of my Audatious contract, carefully blow open that ship, and use my pod to capture my target that got sucked into space.

Is there any point to doing the defector missions, besides them being fun as hell? Unless I'm confused and they're what you need to unlock a station's bonus or w/e

As far as I can tell they're just challenge missions, there's no reward to doing them other than the smug satisfaction of knowing you did a hard(er) mission with a special loadout.

In one of my first handful of missions, I hosed up and got spotted while trying to get to my assassination target, so the timer started and I got kicked off the ship. I had my pod pick me up, quickly slammed back onto the ship, then I ran over so that my assassination target (and more importantly, a nearby guard) were within range of my swapper, swapped with the guard, short-bladed my target, swapped back with the guard, and ran back to my pod. Made it out with like 10 seconds to spare. This game is good. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198000981147/ I'm also joining the steam group as Ruiner of Explanations.

I think the Defector missions are just challenges / a way to give you new ideas on how to use items or weapons. Some of them are just silly fun, like the one where they give you the self-charging subverter grenade launcher and let you go hog wild on the shielded enemies. Does anyone knows if there are self-charging items/weapons in the wild, or are they just locked into the defector challenges? Sadly, I have some unfortunate news for both Lorccan Smash and Unlucky UFO - I was tasked with rescuing each of them and died comically in both attempts. Third time's the charm, I'm sure I'll get someone rescued eventually! I did manage to find Bruteman's Subverter:

I beat a mistake difficulty assassination mission by hijacking another warship and unloading missiles into the target ships hull until my target was spaced and then just followed the body around until they suffocated. Very satisfying game.

My only problem is i suck at docking/picking up my body. It's a pain in the rear end and having to fly back to base after failing a mission kind of sucks. I wish I could alternatively select a new a new mission from space/pod

Just rescued a presumably-goon friend (Tasty Lemon Drops)'s hero, thereby depriving said friend of his services forever. The mission was crammed full of shieldhavers and I didn't have even remotely enough subverters and suchlike to carve through them. No worries, says I, I have a three-charge long-range self-charging sidewinder . You can't carry someone when teleporting. Wound up ejecting us through a window and using my Offworld Angel pod to pick us up before we suffocated. 10/10 would gently caress up hilariously again. Edit: you do know you can sync speeds with your body or the station by holding RMB when they're the selected / closest target, right? Double edit: also holding F speeds up movement on the spacemap. I added a subverter with that trait called "Burning Chrome" to the pool, if you're on my friends list. It's pretty much the best solution to shields I've seen.

Helpful Tips for Newbies:
Helpful Exploits: Any personal retirement mission that's about 'Getting enough money to pay debts/retire' will give you about 1k in cash. You don't have to retire immediately once you turn the mission in, so go to the shop and repeatedly purchase Mystery Crates until you find the perfect item to retire with, sell the ones you don't want to maximize your chances. Played this for three hours straight, got mad that I couldn't find any AP ammo for my AP rifle, or any other AP weapons, to deal with the all-armor foundry capture mission that was my first character's personal. He had been wounded 18 times at this point and was an insta-death no matter what, so I just hijacked another foundry warship and suicided it into the first. Rest in rip, whatever your name was. On the funnier side I did go balls-out on an offworld audacious and beat 45 people into unconsciousness with the Everything Gun. Anybody know how to fight other warships without getting gangfucked by the seeking missiles? Every time I fight one it seems they get perfect hits because of the seeking aspect whereas I'm just kind of flailing around with the dumbfire projectiles.

So when you're stealing objects as part of a mission, they're actually use-able things with everything hidden. I'm not sure if there's a pattern, but I'm going to try to find out. If anyone else wants to contribute, feel free to pitch in. Rechargeable emergency shield, 3 charges. Rechargeable visitor, 1 charge, normal(i think) range. My hope is one of these is secretly a self-charging variant. e: Extreme range glitch trap, 3 charges. Range comparison e2: Re-did a personal mission involving stealing an object after failing. Same item, same name, same icon, different effects. Looks like this rabbit hole is a dead end. HarmB fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Sep 24, 2017 |
