A problem I had with Demon's and DS1 is that some options are too good that I have to stave off using them to prevent each run from too samey: Adjudicator's Shield, Crescent Falchion, Sticky Composite Bow, Quelaag's Furysword, Havel's Armour, Grass Crest Shield... For all the poo poo DS2: SOTFS gets it does have the best build balance and variety in the series .

I've never tried the Lava Bow but I've heard a whole lot of people use it even without upgrading Dex much.

I beat Bloodborne almost entirely with Ludwig's sword in GS mode, which is weird because I never liked GS weapons in Dark Souls. Ludwig's fuckin' owned though.

Honestly the only memorable things about WA5 are it suddenly turning into a mecha anime near the end and MUSCLE BUTLER. Oh and the utterly ridiculous way the main character wields his weapon. (In contrast, the only memorable things about WA4 are the one early scene with the time power running and Raquel basically destroying the entire game solo)

Oh, I also remember it having an incredibly grindy crafting system that was introduced waaaay too late and was also really unnecessary because Raquel just chumps on everything in the entire game regardless.

it pisses me off that the crafting percentages in tactics ogre LUCT are a lie. 100% of the tine you will get the same order of successes and failures if you reload a save state over and over again to say nothing of it being moronic to have a chance to fail in the first place, especially in a single player game

Wild Arms 4 was really short and while I don't remember all the plot points the general message was that older people are the worst and do nothing but make things worse for the next generation, but since the older generation is so influential the young have no choice but to accept their lovely lot or else abandon society altogether and live as a ranger or something. I thought it was a pretty pessimitic message when I played it years ago but in TYOOL 2017 I'm suddenly more receptive

Velvet's position was never "no murder ever" it's "no sacrificing peaceful innocents for others and I'll kill the murderers that try it". So Oscar tripping her up rang stupidly hollow. Especially given she was responsible for killing way better people. Dehry posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-oWi2hPz5Y Man I hope the new Atelier is better. And how obnoxious Keithgriff is. At least Firis was experimental I guess.

Endorph posted:Again, it wasn't that Oscar was uniquely good, or about 'no murder ever,' it was that literally 'killing someone's brother made older sister sad' tripped her up due to her specific pain, and no matter how she tried to justify it she still took someone's little brother away. It's not subtle, either, there are a bunch of explicit parallels drawn in the leadup and I think Velvet spells it out when it happens.

One other thing I want to mention about Wild Arms 3 whoever put Grab and Sprint on the same button is a sick deviant in need of a severe kicking. SaGa Scarlet Grace is good. It'll be even better when I actually figure out the battle system. I thought it had clicked until the first time an enemy did an interrupt attack which cancelled all my actions and spells and did as much damage as multi-turn-charge magic to my whole party. I'm also confused by the difficulty ratings on the battles. It seems to go: Easy - One or two enemies that die in one hit Normal - Nightmarish struggle against large number of tough enemies that cluster on the battle turn order so you can't pull off any combo attacks while fighting them. Also they have counters that kill you in one hit and BS interrupt skills Hard - Boss fight which is easy because you're either getting five actions to its one or killing its adds to spark off combo attacks. But anyway battle is fun when it makes sense and I love the open-ended feeling and crystal-clear upgrade system. Also the music is top notch and the character designs are unique and very nice.

I did not like Ayesha, but loved Escha and Shallie games. The jump in quality is really big for me across the board. Mostly the combat in Ayesha is not that fun in comparison. Although I will say Ayesha has a top tier battle theme that I always slap on Escha and Shallie.
