I'd argue that there really isn't a point to playing them past the first one, because they all have the same plot.

At least the first game had actual cases to solve and not the random bullshit the second game had.

i'm also looking at point & click and FMV games in general lately, for the next steam sale batch buy

but in addition to that, seeing what P&C games are not available on steam/GOG/amazon/etc, and seeing if they're on archive.org for free -- they usually are, thank you DMCA exemption

it's basically a do-over of Overseer (which was itself a reimagining of the early Tex games) with much better visuals, 4K filming, I'm assuming a completely revamped script that hooks into Tesla Effect and the next game, and (should) have new areas/puzzles

I dunno how some of the michael york stuff will get transposed into the game, since Overseer certainly was not filmed in 4K. I definitely saw new areas in some of the updates but also stuff from Overseer like the fuckin "the floor is lava" art room

They also plan on doing one last Tex Murphy game after Poisoned Pawn that'll wrap everything up

Personally I'd say Yakuza for me since it came out so close to the end of August, but I'm also really digging Death of the Outsider so far. Dishonored's good as hell.

OH but also Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice just got ported in hd to android and ios,so thats up there too

They have the same "plot" in the same way Phoenix Wright has the same plot. It's the characters that are important and the sequel definitely has a better cast although it's basically cheating.

as long as they just make general combat improvements it'll still probably be better than the original

secret of mana is a very pretty game but that combat system has aged worse than final fantasy adventure somehow

I've come to terms that the Mana series is the most inconsistent beloved series. Nobody really talks about the first game in any of its iterations except to laugh at how overly wordy Sword is describing the antics of a character named DarkLord. Secret is beloved but it's a buggy mess with an awful magic grinding system and under the hood it's mashed potatoes. SD3 is better but you can build your characters into a wall as class upgrades can remove important spells permanently. I swear by Legend of Mana because I got into roleplaying around the same time and the free form design informed my RP style but it's piss easy and your choices don't matter. I actually found someone who likes Children, the totally not-Diablo game. I've literally never met anyone who likes the PS2 game, which has a lot in common with Kingdoms of Amalur, or that RTS game. And are people playing those mobile titles?

gently caress, give Mana to Vanillaware. Odin Sphere isn't too far removed from a Mana game in aesthetics or style and I think the top down action is kind of wasted on the series. Legend was at least trying to be a beat 'em up instead of a weird action hybrid with fake hit boxes and spells that freeze everything.

speaking of things that rip off the basic structure of secret of mana,

i like these more densely-packed trees better imo. why aren't they also behind the cliff? because the cliff is on layer -9996 but the tree is on layer -<y position> :ssh:

al-azad posted:

or that RTS game.

that's because the rts game was irredeemable. it felt okay in the beginning, but after the number of units on the field starts to increase past a certain number, the game runs into insane clock speed problems and you lose your actions if certain frames are dropped. and it's always skipping your action frames
