Personally I think this is the best thing he's done since Holy Wood. There's a couple songs I don't love, but I'm mostly into the whole thing. SAY10 is loving great and should have been the title track and lead single.

You know, I'd be less worried about my 16 year old daughter dating a successful 40 year old cartoonist than dating a 16 year old loser.

I mean, Jesus, kid, at least date a motherfucker with abortion money and house to have sex at where your mother and I don't have to hear it. Also, if he treats her poorly, boom, that asshole's gonna catch a statch charge.

Please, John K. Date my daughter... Save her from dating smelly dropouts who wanna-be Soundcloud rappers.

The new song "Stigmata" (from the Atomic Blonde soundtrack) is straight-up Big Black worship. Anyone who's been wishing MM would get back to their root / the "Spooky Kids sound" should get a lot of hope from it.

Stigmata is essentially Racer-X by Big Black.

It's also a pretty dull cover in that it doesn't do anything interesting with the song, so there's really not much reason to listen to it instead of the original.

I do think it's funny to see two people who are music-literate enough to namecheck Big Black but not know Ministry's second most well-known song.

Like Personal Jesus and Wicked Game then.
MMs covers are typically based on the idea "lets make a sort of metal version of that famous song and make video that include girls dressed in black leather".

Much like the movie was a dull cover of John Wick.

I'm surprised I didn't get probated for that one. :v:
Eh, to be topical, I like the weird psychedelic era of MM best. Too bad they chased Daisy off during the making of ACS, which supposedly showed more range but I thought made them seem more nin cloneish. But then that was their biggest project ever so what do I know?

loving lol at people saying NIN hasnt been good since Trent got clean when manson has been making GBS threads out garbage since 2003. Trent has definitely shifted gears but its not straight up dogshit at least and he still performs the old poo poo incredibly well or better than ever. Trent has also done some actually incredible soundtracks and is a significantly more accomplished artist so I dont know how you can compare the two really.

Holywood was the last good "manson" thing manson did. EMDM was refreshing but not on the same level of quality as anything before it.

Everything pales in comparison to AntiChrist however.

I can't believe anyone likes EMDM, it's still one of the worst albums I've ever heard.

The album is out!

I'm just a few songs in, but digging it so far. Seems to have more electronic influence which I'm on board with.

Despite seeing the tracklist for a while I didn't get the SAY10 Satan thing until hearing the song.

Maybe they amp it up in the mix but he still sounds good / loud in the studio.

I still refer to Marilyn Manson as "them" (a band) rather than "him" (a person). I should probably stop doing that :(

edit: Alice Cooper is probably the most similar case. It was the name of a band from 1964-1975, then Vince Furnier changed his name to Alice Cooper for his solo career.

edit 2: Someone should ask Twiggy Ramirez if he's "Marilyn Manson's bassist" or "the bassist in the band Marilyn Manson".

He was always Marilyn Manson, but the band was also called Marilyn Manson.

TOOT BOOT
May 25, 2010

Manson has never really been known as a songwriter or anything. At least back on the ACS tour the most he could do instrumentally was kinda jam along on guitar for a few songs.

That said he's pretty much irreplaceable to the band.

They were MM & the Kids initially but when they got signed the label thought that was too long and the band just became MM, its frontman is credited on the first album as Mr.Manson in an effort to avoid confusion as to whether the project was one person or a group. Of course after that they basically decided the hell with it since on Smells Like Children their leader is credited as the Reverend Marilyn Manson and I think just straight up MM from there on out, they lost me after a while. :eng101:
