Did the edge highlighting on 5 of my deathwatch last night, but decided to go with Incubi Darkness instead of Dark Reaper. Finished the edge highlighting, then did some work on the chapter badges. Really happy with how these turned out, especially the Flesh Tearers one (which is my secret favorite chapter).

I also decided to test out using a satin varnish on the black, and I really like the look of it, so I think i'm going to use it on all the power armor. You can see it on the black area around the Flesh Tearers shoulder pad.

Satin varnish is my go-to. I love how it makes power armor and metals look.

Is it possible to airbrush ink over metal to end up with a colored metal effect? Or do I need to buy ghost tints?

It works fine, I just did it myself:

Base coated with AP Plate Mail, mixed in some Scale 75 Violet ink for the second, solid purple coat, then did a third coat around the edges with just the ink for the darker color.

If they're still liquid, thin them with acrylic medium and filter the clots.
If they've dried out, they're dead and you should use the pots for miniature holders or something.

Yup, I picked it and a Scorpion tank up 2 days before the maker announced they were closing their business :v:

Is that odd ripple in the cast of the model? It's interesting.

Yeah, it's a resin model and honestly the casts on both of them make Reaper Bones amazing by comparison. Here's another angle:

I'm hoping that a gloss coat will knock the ringing (it's in multiple places) down a bit.

When you say mixed in, you mean that the second coat was done with a mix of Plate Mail and Violet ink?

Felt like I should've picked up a Pelican when I had the chance but I don't think they were really all that available amongst Swedish retailers.
Even if I perhaps didn't look hard enough.

Yup, I just added it to what was already in the airbrush until it was a light purple.

Revell just put out a 1:100 scale Pelican kit for $30. It's the Halo 5 style which some people hate, but if you want to scratch that itch...

That looks great!

Scale75 also makes their 'Alchemy' paints which are colored metallics. I've been getting a lot of use out of them and want to do a primaris Alpha Legion dude with them.

I'd really like to try my hand at weathering pigments on this Knight i'm going to be painting up, but i'm not really sure where to start.

I'd like to make it look somewhat dirty and grimy on the armor plates as if it hasn't been back to the shop in a bit. Not battle damage really, but just a little dirty.

Any advice or videos someone can reference me to?

Looks like it was printed on a 3d printer that wasn't quite up to the job and they didn't bother to do much finishing work before pouring silicone. A couple hours of filling and sanding primer when he made the mold probably would have fixed that.

I'm dipping my hands into this and buying the basics. I'm confused about varnish though. I just bought a can of Testors Matt varnish. Is that right? There was also a Tamiya semi-gloss.

You should get a gloss varnish and a matte varnish. Spray the gloss first for protection (gloss varnish is stronger), then go over it again with matte to get rid of the shine.

Testors Dullcote is the best poo poo out there. I use gloss then matte when I'm doing metals, but with plastics or resin models I just do matte.

Metallic with transparent colour over it. In this case its gold with transparent red.

Best done with an airbrush but some people have had some success handbrushing.

I'm using two IKEA lamps with LED bulbs and diffusor caps. German amazon links because i'm german but you should be able to find equivalent stuff if that's too far away. Hardest part was the 5000K led bulbs, not all that many options there. The rest is dirt cheap and i'm really happy with the light the setup gives.

I'm using exactly the same setup, only with 6500k bulbs. The tertial lamp is one of those hidden IKEA gems.

So this might be a little grim/weird* but I need piles of civilian bodies for scenery/terrain purposes. 40k-ish "scale". Any ideas? Maybe zombies?

*: I'd argue the "There are no civilians anywhere near the battlefield that's happening in the middle of an enormous goddamn city and therefore no casualties or any indications of such! :v:" model usually pursued (at least in 40k, although see Abnett's Necropolis for a pretty good handling of it, I think) is actually more offensive since it flies in the face of, you know, loving reality?
