I considered sending in an anonymous confession as his girlfriend, telling the thread that he is fine and happy with her and doesn't need us, but I wasn't sure I could make it creative/interesting enough. Plus, you know, .

I'm 36 so the youngest I'd go is 26 and the highest would be 56. Unless there's a ton of money. Then I'd gently caress a 70 year old.

Incoherence posted:Yeah, this is sort of the genesis of the "half your age plus 7" thing: an 8 year age gap means something different if the younger party is 18 vs. 22 vs. 26. Even at 26 and 34 there's a chance that the dude is a manchild, but you should both have reached the "functioning adult" life stage by then and should be on somewhat equal footing. I met and started dating my husband when I was 28 and he was 22 (now 37/30), but he was already a military vet by then and was divorcing his first wife so he had a bit more life to work with than most 22 year olds. At the 20s point it's really a matter of common sense, maturity and being a functional adult

Yeah kiddie porn goon, you are essentially not calling 911 on a burning building because you don't want to be an arson suspect. I'm 29 my last GF was 8.5 years older than me and cougars rule so I'm sorry if you have we re age hang ups. That being said, a 30 year old dating a 21-23 year old is hosed up because let's be honest your still just as inexperienced and retarded at 21 as you were at 18, but with 3 more years of "I'm an adult don't tell me what to do!" under your belt to help you justify it. Here's a weird one, I caught up with my High School GF like 4 years ago, she is a year younger than me, so 24 at the time, and I asked about her new boyfriend. She was living with a 55 year old man in a warehouse he was renovating with the dudes 15 year old son. She invited me to dinner there and I had to say yes out of morbid curiosity and because I still care about her as a friend. The dude was a DEAD RINGER for her dad. It wasn't a "maaaaaaybe if you squint" it was a "no loving way" identical duplicate. He had the same job her father had and dressed the same and basically I ate dinner and got the hell out of there. A week later I called her and said "look I love you and I want you to be ok so I'm just gonna ask: are you aware that your partner looks exactly like your dad?" And she just said "oh yeah I know, mom thinks it's weird to, I haven't introduced him to dad yet". A few months later he went with her to thanksgiving, he met her dad and dumped her on the spot and drove 4 hours back home leaving her there. Age is just a number folks, but it can also be a big red flag.

I think I read the inverse of that story in the r/relationships thread a while back in that one, the poster knew her dad was dating someone really young and was already a little weirded out by that, but then actually met her and found out that the poster and the girlfriend were the same age and looked extremely similar to each other

The kind of guy who'd seek out and connect with a girl more than ten years younger than him probably has some personal issues, which can result in some pretty funny trainwreck stories. Oh yeah, no argument there. My mom's parents, though, met when she was 15 and he was 33. They got married the day she turned 18. But that was in 1935.

It's ridiculous most of the time, the problem is that half of those stories include 'we've been dating for 8-10 years', usually starting when one person was underage or not even in their 20s, meaning yeah, it's kinda gross

Those two were basically the same one so here's one morequote:I was a sociopath as a kid and still worry that I might be as a grown man. As an Internet expert in talking out my rear end I think maybe you should look for a psychiatrist rather than a therapist, but either way you are going to have to talk about your issues. Remember, a professional is a professional. You wouldn't want to show a boil on your rear end to a friend at a party, but you'd want to show it to a doctor. Talking about your weird childhood killing bugs and rats is the same kind of deal.

I was on a work trip recently (just overnight) and at the end of the day, colleagues and I were back at someone's room drinking a bit. People leave until it's just me and the room's occupant, a ~50 year old reasonably attractive woman. As soon as it was just the two of us, she started flirting really hard (lots of arm / leg touching) and telling me how hard it is meeting people as a divorced mother of two.
