So are they still frantically trying to get the score on this film right less than two weeks away from release?

This would've been ages ago - usually what happens with prop makers is that they get a group of other members to buy in to cover the costs, then if they get enough demand they'll do a second run. Otherwise you're just looking at those folks who bought in selling theirs on an individual basis, which become prohibitively more expensive. I took a look around and it seems like all that's available for sale right now is the Johnny Walker bottle from the first film.

For an artist of his stature, very little is known about Vangelis' personal life and he rarely gives official interviews to journalists. However, in a 2005 interview with The Daily Telegraph, Vangelis talked openly about various parts of his life. He stated in the interview that he was "never interested" in the "decadent lifestyle" of his band days, choosing not to use alcohol or other drugs. At the time of the Telegraph interview, Vangelis was involved in his third long-term relationship. When asked why he had not had children, Vangelis replied:

…Because of the amount of travelling I do and the nonsense of the music business, I couldn't take care of a child in the way I think it should be taken care of.

It is not publicly known where Vangelis generally resides; he has stated that he "travels around", rather than settling down in one specific place or country for long periods of time.

Speaking of Dune, I hope if he gets it they really go nuts with the costumes and stuff in a good way and not in a Sci-Fi Channel Presents Frank Herbert's Dune kind of way.

I know it won't happen but it would be amazing if they just said gently caress it to even adapting the book and rolled with Jodorowsky's version. He mentioned in the documentary that while he personally is done with it he'd be thrilled if someone else wanted to direct his script/make that particular take on it.

One thing I remember liking about the series (which I don't think I've rewatched since it first aired) was how every group had their own weird accent. If people are really supposed to be from different planets they sure as hell won't all sound the same even if they're speaking the same language.

I don't know about using Jodorowsky's adaption directly but I would be happier with a more abstract take on the book. Hopefully they can really go to town with the production design of it.

He's Craig's choice, and Craig now has a considerable amount of influence since they basically had to give him the world in order to get him to sign for one more movie. But Villeneuve keeps saying that he wants to take a break and avoid a burnout, because he's basically gone from Enemy to Sicario to Arrival to Blade Runner without any rest in-between.

I don't know what EON's timetable is or whatever but it would be really smart if they let Villeneuve take that break and then do it.

:laffo: They should get Pierce Brosnan back for a remake of Never Say Never Again and actually have Craig cameo at the end like they Connery and Moore originally wanted to do.

They're locked in for a 2019 release, so it's already going to be 4 years since the last one and Craig is gonna be ooooold. Can't imagine they would wait.

Yeah, Craig will be 51 when the movie comes out, which I think would put him behind only Roger Moore as oldest on-screen Bond.

The other reason the release date is locked is because EON and MGM are still negotiating with distributors for a new deal, and having a date set in stone creates a sense of urgency for people to make the best offer possible. Last I recall reading, the top suitors are Sony, Warner Bros., Apple and Amazon.

Craig's aging pretty badly. He was already rather craggy in Casino Royale and was borderline haggard in Spectre. He really does only have one more Bond movie left in him before it becomes a bad joke.

Replicants are killed in mob violence by human supremacists.

Also, a single Replicant murders a platoon of armored and armed security guards barehanded.

Like, seriously, something doesn't add up here.

Another point, why even disable the lifespan limit? The original movie even states the four-year lifespan is to prevent them from forming their own emotions that eventually causes them to question themselves and go rogue.

It absolutely does add up. We see a similar disparity in physical prowess and strength between the replicants in the original because they're all grown with different capacities for power, intelligence, etc. depending on their purpose and intended specialization. During the breifing scene in the original the ones introduced to us even have serial numbers and designations on screen that are consistent with that.

Even though the anime short was by the creator of Cowboy Bebop it was still kinda boring. I got major Animatrix vibes when the art style turned impressionistic with the war flashback, it looked like A Kid's Story, which was probably my favourite Animatrix short. Makes sense because he directed both, and both sequences take place in a dream state. And they owe their existence to a bigger production.

The best thing about the short was seeing a tiny anime Dave Bautista portrait.

Having seen all three shorts I can't say any of them really jazzed me up for the movie. Still going to see it but at this point I'm keeping expectations in check. I've seen GitS 2017 and to be honest thought they pulled off the "dystopic techno-future" look better, towering holograms and all.

True, but even Pris was dangerous. Her background working in military clubs supposedly equaled to her having some sort of combat ability, which is why she initially kicked Deckard's rear end. And, even in the short, the slim and tiny hookeroid picks up and throws out a 300-400 pound trucker onto the street from a moving vehicle and then tears through a car loads of armed security guards.

It feels like they're trying to make the replicants too sympathetic by adding random vigilante mobs instead of just relying on the futuristic version of the Antebellum South's night watch and fugitive slave trackers, RepDetect. I think that replicants shouldn't be something ordinary citizens would tangle with. That's why they have the blade runners. I feel that they should be like time bombs, with specialized police dealing with them like bomb squad (or, if you believe the "Deckard's a replicant" theory, a bomb disposal robot).

Penpal posted:
