This whole thing is just stupid and really sad. What a poo poo thing to happen to a charming, odd little show.

I hope that nobody is attacking the VAs about it, but actually going after The correct target.

Edit: Stupid autocorrect.

Yeah give the Va's some slack, it's not like they have a choice in the matter.

Apparently Japan Racing Association and Nissin both released statements on their respective sites saying that they had given full permission for the collaborations that were done, which kind of contradicts what Kadokawa claimed.

It’s been two days since this happened and I’m still absolutely livid about this and this has never happened to me before with any other anime-related thing and it’s not fun at all.

I can't remember the last time I've been this upset and disappointed by something like this, either. We went from watching an ugly duckling grow into a beautiful swan, to watching the swan's caretaker casually shank it to death.

Fun Shoe
It happened so suddenly, out of nowhere and completely unjustified.
What's worse is Kadokawa then:

-Victimized itself while vilifying the animation studio with a statement that turned out to be a complete lie.
-Tried to remove the news from Nico douga from the front line, got found out, then silently put it back
-Editing the title of the new article, got found out, then silently fixed
-Dwango then admit to manipulating the news but blamed it on moderators
-Announces a new Kemono Friends radio show despite the controvercy
-Make the VAs de-escalate the situation that they had no say in

It's amazing how loving bad the company is at PR.

Watch as they rehire the director, only to keep Tatsuki from doing his job with arbitrary restrictions.

At this point, the best thing that can happen other than the rights being sold off to someone else, is the franchise just ending. Let it die with dignity, an anomaly in the history of animated franchises.

It's a long tweet-chain, but someone translated a writeup some jp fans have done about how what Kadokawa is saying is true isn't adding up at all. Some interesting stuff in there.

it's a genuinely really bothersome thing just because it was such a sweet underdog heartfelt thing that by all metrics should have flopped to begin with. Instead fans embraced it and it got huge thanks to stuff like silly side things and fan arts and all, so them being all 'uh we have to protect our IP that's why we shat all over our own people doing something the fans enjoyed' feels so lovely. Not only is it just a terrible way to treat the people who work for you, it's a complete 'yea but gently caress that' over how the show got to be this golden goose to begin with.

Okay I'm going to have difficulty coming up with a bad anime that people won't defend. So just pretend I said you most hated bad anime in place of either of those two. The point likely still stands.

I'd rather not poo poo up the thread with off topic arguments.
