Backers are also tired of trailers. There's a very large portion of them out there, including streamers and the old SC vanguard that are vocal about seeing actual, honest-to-God gameplay before they open their wallets again.

I expect CIG has been rushing a trailer or series of trailers since they got back the mocap data from 3lateral, along with using young and (frankly) overzealous YouTubers and machinima fan artists to cobble something together.

If they run the disastrous Gamescom demo again, I think they'll be at half or even less of what they pulled in last year. They need something to energize the fanbase, shut up the doubters, and make the current refunders in the queue stop their refund process.

I honestly don't know if they have anything to show. Even with an outside studio coming in to help produce a shiny guided gameplay experience, I believe most backers will still be jaded and skeptical (and rightly so) until they see it on their hard drives.

Do we know who the outside studio is?

if the leaks and rumor mills are to be believed, SQ42 and SC are basically the same game at this point. You'll have a single-player campaign in the MMO, acting as character creation and a tutorial starting point. Mission givers will hand out story quests if you've unlocked the SQ42 package, and will be simply "there" and unable to be interacted with if not.

Who knows if that's real, but I could see a game like SQ42 taking somewhere between four to five years and $120m dollars to make on its own. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they decided to cut a few corners and slap a few missions staring A-list actors into Star Citizen.

The real shame is that they stopped doing their best marketing technique; the in-game ship advertisements. You could see the quality of their commercials steadily decrease, with less voice acting and effort, until now they don't even bother. It would have been a good opportunity to showcase new gameplay options and features in a cinematic manner, but you kind of need a functional game for that to happen. Backers are savvy to how lovely CIG is about providing what they showcase. After Star Marine, then Star Marine again, and most recently this planetside nonsense there's no tolerance for anything that isn't actually provided. The more vocal idiots like Tarkaroshe can crow all they want about patience and timelines, but the reality of the situation is that if you can't play it then it doesn't exist. Previously promises were CIG's product, but we've all seen how empty that has become.

If they have anything to show, it will be just as cringe-inducing and disappointing as every other live event. More importantly it will have no bearing whatsoever on whatever product the backers play in the very last week of December before CIG fucks off for their Christmas break. You would think that with the Idris and other starship assets, Star Marine foundation, and enough time they could have released a "Capture the Idris" example of gameplay but that would require competence and leadership.

I could see that being the case. Originally Squadron 42 was intended to be a standalone experience that, when the player was done, would start their Star Citizen experience with a ship and a reputation based on how they did in the single player game. The best part is that if they actually do just shove Squadron 42 into Star Citizen then it flies in the face of everything they said when Elite was made online only. I also love the idea of being able to exploit the poo poo out of a Wing Commander single player experience in a MMO. If they truly do merge the games together then don't be surprised if CIG's lovely coding lets players join the Navy, steal a fighter, and then gently caress off with the equivalent of a mid-game starship after only a few minutes of play.

Griefer's paradise.

That implies they ever continued working on it besides that sq42 tease that looked worse than an Atari Jaguar game.

Citizencon, if I were a betting man, i'd place my money on a video with staff explaining they couldn't finish whatever the gently caress they promised to get working in time for citizencon for the 2nd straight year. They have shown exactly zero hints of anything being worked, look at how long they jacked off about "miles" on twitter and the weekly youtube vomit for that poo poo to be entirely pointless. At best theres a redesign of the patcher, lol no not a delta patcher, lets not give them too much credit

this wasn't the place I was talking about earlier but it wouldn't surprise me if some of the well paid CIG people run in that circle

there's a few real "underground" elite sex parties still running in hollywood, where young (sometimes underage) stars and starlets want to meet the big and powerful people behind the great and secret show, but sanctum is just a expensive ripoff featuring $50 cocktails and $300 handjobs

last I heard there were the singer pool parties and the rituals as the second. Neither would be fun.
