I just realized that aside from the obvious (EMP/bluescreen for robots) that I don't actually know for sure what enemies are immune to certain damage types. I just kind of assumed that dragon and venom rounds were for the most part and gave talon rounds to rangers and AP/EMP to everyone else, maybe tracers to guys with bad marksmanship if I randomly got some.RBA Starblade posted:I give my baby sharpshooters tracers until I get bluescreen rounds. They're also good on reapers. Sting + bluescreen and you get a chunk of damage + reduced hack defense on that sectopod to really take the edge off them while staying hidden. Banish + bluescreen = lol of course, just make sure they get a superior expanded magazine mod so they can really go kill crazy.

Saturation fire is the best way to open your concealed ambush. Especially on the longer missions it's good to use your cooldowns first, and consumables to fill the gaps when your cooldowns are recharging.

Immune to Melee sucks for a Templar because what are they gonna do, run up to the Chosen's face and shoot them with their dinky little pistol?

I didn't get ambushes until recently and I just run. There is only one section each ambush where I receive fire (usually a trooper under a ladder).

I never bothered with the Ambush prevention once I realized how easy they were to fight through. It just felt like a waste of a card slot and waste of resources to prevent (Alloys, supplies, etc). Every time I got ambushed I followed the same strat without issue. First turn, dash up onto a fire escape with one person at the top of the ladder to body block. Overwatch the reinforcement Officer/Trooper drop. Then stick to the upper floors. If you pop advent and can't kill them on your turn easily, pull back into the middle of the room to break line of sight and force them to come up top into an overwatch trap. When you pop lost, stick on the high ground and again put one person at the top of the ladder to body block the lost from getting up.

the most hilarious thing about the first turn reinforcement drop is that if your team is concealed/shadowed, the dropship will come in and drop.....absolutely nobody.

Late game ambushes can give you Andromedons to deal with though, and those guys require a bit more ordinance to take down than two people can field in a single turn. Kinda have to crack the armor from max range and pray for that one.

Just straight up run away from them towards the extraction and break line of sight by going up in those appartments. Regarding ammo, talon rounds are a lot of fun on reapers. 100% crit on your walking maphack is pretty loving good.

It's loads of fun soloing facilities with a Reaper, and mapping out the entire enemy force on landed ufos before turning the beacon off the turn it activates. Who thought reapers were ok to put in this game?

Mystic Stylez posted:So, which of the special faction soldiers do you guys think it's the best to start with? For Commander difficulty, if that matters. i go with skirmishers. The faster build speed of their HQ is nice in getting your GTS/Ring up in the first month soon enough to get some ops for more support personel and squad to 5 in time for the first retaliation. having 2-3 engineers into month 2 is great for getting a head start. their justice can help very well vs the first officers, and while their bullpup is less damage, its not that bad, being 3-4 vs 3-5 of your rifles. basically, unless the rumor is worth it, only scan for build speed that first month. if you can pull it off, skip buying anything but your GTS, Ring, Squad 5. clearing a space or two can give you enough supply to pull it off. buy things you need in month 2
