Completely blew alpha-striking the King Viper because I forgot he can immediately react when I move, so he froze two of my dudes when I repositioned. :cripes: He's only got four health now so it'll be a treat when he reappears again.

I also uh, started the facility mission with an extra soldier I've never met before. He had no headshot on the hud or anything, and I stepped away while loading to grab some water so I didn't hear if Bradford introduced him, but he had the plasma rifle and armour you'd expect from a rookie. I'm pretty sure I haven't changed any of my orders, and the only new continent bonus is that I get supply drops instantly. Anyone know what that's about?

They're also very good point men once the squad has broken concealment. I haven't actually gotten any of my defectors killed yet, but they've sure had to earn their place.

I am a little sad they don't show up in mission photos, though. If my designated door checker makes to the evac zone he at least deserves to be in the group shot.

I'm sure there's a mod for it, but normally no.
The game does require that you put them in the evac zone for those missions though.
Cue my annoyance when I ran a stun lancer halfway across the map after all my guys got out, and had to run him right back.

I like the one that gives the ADVENT ones a chance of showing up in your rosters as hybrid soldiers (normal ones with Skirmisher head cosmetics and the Officer mark target ability) if they survive.

You can also Fulton ADVENT in the field for Elerium Cores/PCS/Hybrid recruits :v:

There is a mod that kind of half does this by letting you recruit normal class hybrids, but you have to do it through a covert action. The material is there, at least, it just has to come together.

The balance is all over the place anyway. I made the extract corpses mod specifically cause i made a mod that changed most of the missions to require evacuation. It blew up in popularity when LW2 came out and did the latter (more evacuation missions) with nothing to really make up for the corpse shortfall other than lucky mission rolls.

Once you've had your fill of the vanilla balance the mods let you go hog wild.

You have a skirmisher on your team? Their interrupt functionality is broken in some ways, granted pods on scamper their action points so they get a scamper plus their full turn.

I've never bought a game like that. And CoD is £40, what are you talking about? If you're talking console games they're always expensive as gently caress and I don't own a console.

I'm comparing it to things like Divinity 2, Witcher 3, Stellaris and other games that I've picked up around the same time. The only game I can think of that's been more than £30 new has been Civilization 6 - which I guess is Firaxis so it shouldn't be much of a shock. Even then though it was £45 and definitely was much more content compared to what you get in WotC.
If you trawl through Steam there's really not much (or maybe anything?) that you'll find that costs more than £45 as a brand new game.

I feel like WotC gave me another maybe 15/20 hours and most of that time is re-doing old stuff rather than new stuff. I know it's arbitrary and it's not easy to assign a value to something like that but I can't help but see a £35 expansion as exceptionally expensive and their boast of "it's like a whole game's worth of new stuff" as bollocks.

Ok, you're on Steam. Everything more than ten pound is expensive.

As a PS4 user, getting the WOTC content for 40 has been fantastic value because it's significantly less than I paid for the base game.

New enemy classes, new bosses with random perks, new map tiles, new missions, new retaliations, new supply raids, zombies, hero units, covert actions and resistance orders add a lot of replay value to a game with a lot of replay value.

I completely forgot it was even available for consoles, I can see why it's a reasonable price for them.

I guess I don't feel like the bosses or the enemies are different enough. The Chosen feel like they're from a different game and sort of become a minigame of their own that I don't want to repeat because it got so samey by the end. I'll say that Spectres feel really different and have changed how I play but the Priest and...fire guy aren't exciting at all. What I tend to look for is loads of new things to see and I don't think WotC has given me that. I don't care about the challenge, more about seeing what happens next and what new crazy stuff I'm going to be looking at.

Instead let us pretend they added 8 chosen. Nothing else, just 8 chosen and you get 3 per campaign. That'd increase longevity for me. Just swapping around their buffs doesn't really mean I play any different with them though.

I just wanted more for what I've paid. Like I say, when you can get entirely new games with shitloads of content (like Divinity 2) for £30 paying £35 for 6 new enemies, 3 new classes and an uplift feels like tonnes.

I think of Blood and Wine and how much value it gave for so much less money and WotC feels like a bit of a rip off.

Despite the increased spawns in the final room (3 times 3 Codexes in a row is pretty annoying) and having my best Colonel too tired from the Broadcast Tower mission to come along, DLC content beats Avatars pretty decisively.

Avatar 1: Banished, the poor thing never got to do anything
Avatar 2: Overwatch hit, teleported to what would have been too far away but Icarus Jump + Fan Fire finished him off
Avatar 3: Specialist Guardian'd three times to finish off the Muton rush so he had a round left for the Avatar. Who then teleported to a spot next to the warm corpse of Avatar 2 and my Gunslinger. He then tried a Mind Control against the Mindshielded Gunslinger, got 4 Psi Feedback from the resistance bonus, teleported next to my other Specialist with the Disruptor Rifle and got toasted with overwatch.

To be fair, my first attempt with the tired colonel ended rather badly. Despite a Will implant she Berserked and proceeded to do 13 damage to the Commander and a lethal 26 damage to her Bondmate. There is no way to spend 8 days between the final missions is there ?

If a soldier is tired he is prone to constantly roll from a negative effects table. don't send tired soldiers into battle.

The first time I skull-jacked a codex I shot the fucker with my sniper and he teleports next to the sniper with the rest of my squad on the far end of the map where I though they'd be in position to dump rounds into whatever showed up. Enemy turn the av mindcontrols my sniper and then disappears into the woods. So then I have to track the rear end in a top hat down while trying not to get shot by my own sniper.

That was the first and only time I've let one of the dicks live long enough to do more than teleport. Now they get the rapid-fire shotgun at point blank.

What utility items are you guys bringing? Early game there's not much mor important than a grenade, but mid to late game there seems to be a lot of good choices. I've mostly just been giving my guys special ammo and grenades, with maybe one mimic beacon on someone. I'm still using grenades a ton to shred armor and blow cover in one go, and I don't know what item would be more useful than that.

Seems like all the special grenades besides frost bomb are junk just because they don't blow cover. I remember getting a lot of milage out of the stasis vest in one of my vanilla playthroughs cause one ranger got shot every time I took him out.

Oh yeah and skulljack/medkit for the specialist.

Generally, one boom-spec'd grenadier is more than enough boom for cover removal. Proximity mines are a great universal upgrade over plasma/alien nades, and acid is solid if you just want the 4pts of shred. In the rare case of "I need to remove cover on my turn, NOW" (which rarely happens in the lategame), use the heavy weapon. Nobody else should be carrying grenades imo.

Otherwise, psi troopers get 2x mimic beacons, as they have literally no use for guns/slots. Specialists get the jack/medkit as you said. Ammo for the sniper, talon rounds for rangers, both have grapple suits for repositioning and aggro, respectively. Both boom and gunner grenadiers take WAR suits, the first to make use of salvo, the second since blaster bombs can reach places the gun can't. Gunners usually get AP ammo. That basically covers it all, but if I'm not using psi troopers (out of choice) there's generally more dps in the team, and slots for mimic beacons. So yea, basically most utility items never get used on my runs in lategame, there's no point =/
