Falstaff posted:Yeah, assuming I read them correctly, the difference Ytlaya was pointing out is between achieving M4A and saying "There, we're done!" and achieving M4A and saying, "Great, but we've got a lot more work to do." Basically, yeah. I get the impression that Sanders is committed to his particular ideology to the extent that he would keep pushing the Overton window further to the left as long as injustice continued to exist. With some other Democrats who support stuff like M4A, I get the impression they just view it as a solution to the specific problem of healthcare access/affordability, rather than part of a greater push for equality and economic/social justice. I don't really know if Sanders is actually in favor of stuff like democratized workplaces, etc. It's sorta hard to find out, since there wouldn't be much of a reason* to openly push for that kind of thing before making stuff as simple as UHC more palatable. At the very least, I don't think he's really against it, and he would probably be open to supporting it if he thought it would help people (as opposed to other left-leaning Democrats, who I feel would draw the line long before something that dramatically restructured society to that extent). Obviously there's no way to really prove this stuff; I'm just basing this mostly off Sanders' history and the sort of ideology he's advocated and when he's advocated it. It's possible that another politician might also prove to be reliable towards pursuing such goals, but I just find it a lot easier to trust Sanders in that role. *I guess this is actually kinda debatable, but at the very least I can understand why someone would wait before arguing for something like that

Sanders is a Social Democrat who didn't want the term he used to define himself to end in "democrat" so he flipped them. It was a good strategy, and even though his brand of socialism has very little to do with workplace ownership, it's a step up for the previous working American definition of socialism, "literally communism/Stalinism".

I mean, I would think that the ultimate goal of the kinds of aid programs bernie lived off of was to make sure that we don't doom people to poor lives and inability to contribute to society just because they're not currently ideal members of society I would think that the fact that a deadbeat drifter could end up becoming one of the most liked politicians in the US and advance causes like singlepayer should be a point in favor of the systems that let him become an outstanding american citizen

Clinton supporter in the general. These people are pettty, stupid, and wrong. I feel like people like they do not represent the majority of supporters, but they get a majority of the attention. I think that this is a larger problem in general, but this is a good example. There is a toxic group out there that really just wants to be loud and lovely to people they see as the problem. They infect all discourse and I don't know how to break through the noise to get to the place we need to be.
