The discount is a pretty good idea to get more money out of shitheads like me who wait for the inevitable sale price 3 months after release.

New features video out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_1gPUeY0EY I can't watch it at work, it looks cringey as gently caress with a brief glimpse of the new UI and some new features at the end.

The short summary is improved match graphics, changes to the scouting system, and they figured out something for the new staff roles last year to do. The big new feature they are hyping looks like a more detailed leadership system.

The leadership/social circles thing actually looks cool but I doubt it'll be something you interact with much, if at all.

Some of the screens seem to give abit more info so yeah its just another minor update and a new database but gently caress it there's nothing else out there so once it goes on sale i'll buy.

You'd be better off just using a transfer update for 17 if you're after a new database just saying.

Just from looking at screenshots (gently caress no I ain't watching that video), I'm actually really interested in the leadership/social cohesion system but I'm weird like that. Combine that with the scouting and medical changes and the general trend of streamlining its presentation of info, and yeah I actually won't hate myself for buying this at 25% off (and that

Removing the curtain a bit on why your morale goes to poo poo if you drop a certain player or why a small group of assholes hates your team meetings feels like a good thing. Hopefully it works out.

here's to hoping 18 has formations that aren't extremely narrow and maybe fixes fullbacks.

Dallan Invictus posted:medical changes If they have done something with medical, I really, really hope it's less stupid than what is currently in the game, where the Physio of a Premier League club asks the Manager to decide if a £600 specialist treatment to save a month of injury for your key player is worth it. I can understand a non-league club making a decision for £600 because that's pretty much the whole team's clean sheet bonus/match fee, but at a PL club it just feels ridiculous.

Is there even a reason to have more than one Head Physio/Physio/Sport Scientist/etc? Sometimes I think that they might be useful for scouting knowledge, but they know so little I wind up firing all but one. Never noticed a difference in injuries, even while playing as Arsenal.

If I'm remembering right, someone told us once that the quality of a physio literally only determines one thing, and that's how accurate your estimate of injury lengths will be. They have no effect on how likely it is players will get injured, how bad their injuries will be, or how fast they recover. I don't know if this is still true, or even if it ever was, but it's just so perfectly FM that I 100% believe it.

The best part of that video is the guy from Creative Assembly talking about the massively improved stadiums and 3D match engine, while a monitor behind him shows a rotating view of an atmospheric floodlit foggy stadium like something out of a modern day Total War. Then at the end of the video the brief clip looks just as poo poo as ever.

In his infinite wisdom he crafted over 800 **unique** free-kick and corner taker preparation routines. There's the common "lift an arm in the air" or "place the ball six times in the same spot", but also ones mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo or Michael Owen so each free-kick or corner is something special you can savour.

They had researchers counting seats per section and working out latitude, longitude and orientation so the shadows on the pitch would be correct.

That sounds like the most stupid waste of time as opposed to doing something like making sure the match engine works correctly, transfers behave more realistically or the AI actually being able to build and develop a team. Then again, it is SI...
|
# ? Oct 3, 2017 07:35 |
|
In fairness to SI, a good portion of their fan base are computer-illiterate and/or play the game on crappy PCs, laptops or tablets. Do we really think that SI and Creative Assembly, between them, could come up with a way of rendering stadiums to an acceptable degree of simulation that wouldn't drive half their users' computers into the ground every matchday? I mean, there are still plenty of people who play in 2D, and even a few hardy souls on Commentary-only.
|
# ? Oct 3, 2017 22:44 |
|
The middle ground would involve The Liberty Stadium not having open loving corners in tyool 2016, and use appropriate existing models instead. You had the numbers in front of you! 2D & commentary are dumb legacy features that steal development time from features that actually matter. The match engine doesn't work like it used to when they were the norm, so fake reproductions have to be pasted on top of the 3d match engine. People are severely handicapping themselves by using them. sassassin fucked around with this message at 18:46 on Oct 4, 2017 |

Has anyone played the FM 'beta release' thing in previous years? Is it just the full game released a couple weeks early or do they make enough changes afterwards that it isn't worth starting a new career?

GOOD TIMES ON METH posted:Has anyone played the FM 'beta release' thing in previous years? Might be missing some database stuff, have a few fun match engine issues. Actually the last couple of years the match engine got worse with every patch after the beta.

I can't remember if I've asked this question before, but in FM17 are world-class newgens and regens weighted more towards attacking roles? It seems like sometimes I go years without there being a world-class centre-back coming up anywhere in the entire world.

It seems like sometimes I go years without there being a world-class centre-back coming up anywhere in the entire world. I think that, because Defenders generally come into their own later than attackers, it's just a case of having to wait longer for them. And, of course, descriptions of players are heavily weighted by reputation. A 'World Class' defender is probably just a good defender at a club that's had lots of success.

Hmm so will Dynamics be cool and good? It definitely seems interesting and a good step towards representing the player power of the modern game. But at the same time considering how shite current player interactions are it seems like a quickly hosed up recipe. Also I'm almost certain the AI cannot manage it properly.

Its going to be one of those good ideas poorly implimented and will take many many versions to fix. I assume its just going to cause alot of people to be pissed when there long term get ruined because they accidentally pissed a player off for congratulating them for their monthly award.

Also, it'll probably be balanced around top tier leagues and big clubs within those leagues where 'player power' is perhaps more of an issue.
