Oh man, desperado's are so good. I think they both do different things, and aren't competing for the same space. Desperado's are warbands on steroids that don't have optimism or ODD to protect them, but do have smoke grenade launchers and move 8/4 a turn requiring only like 1 order after impetuous to cross the board and chain rifle the enemy. They're also USAriadna's reliable fast template to respond to camo and people stacking modifiers against your rifles, cause all your other troopers are going 4/2 and you don't have Chassuers. Not only that but at 13 points you can upgrade them from 11 pts and 2 heavy pistols, to 2 assault pistols to be B5 in the active turn? They're great and I love them in USAriadna. The Devil Dog, is cool but taller and slower. For 3 points more you can have 3 Desperado's but lose sensor, and have 4 orders more overall covering more ground in chainrifle goodness.

I love the Desperado's so I had to respond with this.

Dude, by all means. I'd always rather find out I've been using a unit wrong and pick up some cool new tricks.

100% agree with you about the assault pistol Desperado. When I use them, I load up on that profile and hope I get lucky crossing the table.

How many units are you running at a time? I'm wondering if using an equivalent number of points in Desperadoes will make up for a Devil Dog and a FO Maverick. I've mostly only use two at a time, since I only have the one Desperado box.

I've tried the Devil Dog a lot and sensing camo tokens is pretty okay, but at the same time it only is one model (Basically) and can really only handle like a third of a table depending on your opponents fire lanes, terrain, etc. The nice thing is that two Desperado's on either table side will reach any flanking TO very easily, you really only need a couple IMO.

They can't really compete with Maverick FO, but in USAriadna for .5 SWC and 1 point less you'd be better off with a Foxtrot FO that is already in position to do objectives and more survivable prone and in camo.

If you're interested in taking Mavericks the Submachine gun + LRL is great. You have msv1, a great set of weapons for any range band, smoke grenades, optional free order, and 8/4 movement at armour 3. For only 22 and .5 swc I like taking a couple of these and running them up the table and going into suppression fire.

Of course with 4 bikers your deployment will be kinda messy, and a canny opponent can handle a couple of desperados using their camo anyways. However, I still think the desperados offer a lot of versatility for a very low amount of points. Even if they don't have camo or ODD (which I feel gives USA the most trouble if they're ranged weapons in suppression or snipers) you can always live the dream and send them to chain rifle order dorks or link teams.

Does "subtlety" seem like a waste of time to you? Does "morale" sound like a word that pussies use to justify their cowardice? Do you like punching people in the face? If so, then Morat Aggression Force is the army for you!

MAF troops are rock hard. You have some really cool weapons (plasma, vulkan shotguns, red furies, and portable autocannon), some wicked heavy infantry (in the form of Suryats and Sogarats), hilarious offensive mobility (in the form of the Rodok fireteam) and the cheapest cheerleaders in the game (linked Gakis and Pretas, who will also eat your opponent's face if given the chance). You almost completely ignore morale effects - all actual Morat are both Religious and Veterans, which means they ignore stuff like Guts checks and are unaffected by being in Loss of Lieutenant.

What MAF lacks is "tricks." Sure, you can throw smoke grenades with Daturazi and shoot through it with Yaogat snipers or whatever, but everyone has smoke+MSV at some level. But as Morats you have only one airborne deployment option and exactly zero camouflage or hidden deployment. I don't think there's anything at all in MAF that can even enter a marker state. Your only infiltrators are Zerats, which are cool but fragile. Also, MAF troops tend to be relatively expensive, so you'll typically have fewer orders than your opponent.

But if you've ever wanted to drop a brick in a sock and hit someone over and over and over with it, you will not be disappointed by MAF.

It's fuckin' great. You get rock hard angry red apes that want to punch everything and everyone right in the fuckin' face, over and over. You got shot? Who the gently caress cares! Soldier, you're a big angry red ape, shrug it off and shoot back! Use that LT order because if the LT gets merked it's not even a fuckin' deal, no one even cares!

More seriously, MAF have good Fireteams (Looking at Yaogats and Rodoks), great morale due to being Religious Veterans, and tend towards a good mix of weaponry. They are, however, completely unsubtle. There are no dirty tricks, no 'Gotcha!' tactics to play on your opponents. The best camo they have is Mimetism. They have exactly 1 infiltrating trooper and exactly 1 AD trooper. You have exactly 3 troop types with Smoke and 2 of those are extremely impetuous warbands. You're not going to surprise anyone and you're not particularly fast.

That said, they're a lot of fun because they do have the tools to deal with your opponents dirty tricks. Angry red apes with MSV2, angry red apes with mines (sometimes lots of mines!), angry red apes with loads of Fire weapons. Hell, you can bring some angry red apes that killed a monster and now wear its skull to impress other monsters to follow her around. Plus some of the best support troops in the game in the Q-Drone and Dr. Worm. Dr. Worm is the best, always use Dr. Worm.

I kind of want to play Infinity again. Bit depressed at how all my models from before are now tiny and goofy-looking, but the new stuff is fully sick so I could easily be tempted back. That Corregidor 300pt force looks very cool, only one mini that I dislike (the missile launcher girl) and some that are sweet AF.

Unfortunately none of my regular gaming buddies would be into it (I've tried) and the last pub I met who was an infinity player was a colossal dickbag.

I agree on the Mobile Brigada models. The dysmorphic female models are not nearly as cool as the normal HI style. I converted another brigada (the starter box one) into a missile launcher.

Big learning point for me - I played infinity first with operation ice storm, and I saw how badass the father knight was in close combat, then went shopping and bought most everything in the new morat sculpts.

I didn't realise their schtick was in not running away, not becoming irregular, and having dudes just sticking around to shoot. I thought they were all close combat specialists. While there are some standouts (Daturazi, Rasyat, Kornak) mostly they are the faction of unbreakable morale. Once I figured THAT out I started winning.

Huge, important with a star note: The Raicho has the Morat rule as well, which gives it veteran, which means it also cannot be isolated. It's a simple TAG, but it's horrifically effective in it's simplicity. The Multi HMG and flamethrower are a potent combo, especially in ITS 9.

More on the Morat rule - even if you take Kornak, the rule lets you play a little fast and loose with your LT, as your troops will never be irregular. At a tournament last year, I had Kornak set to go up a flank with a pair of Daturazi, and my opponent revealed the character ninja (Onibawan I think?) and rushed Kornak, fully expecting me to lose a face to face roll. I said nah, and used berserk, so instead of a face to face roll, it was a pair of unopposed rolles. We both died, but he lost the key to his strategy, and I lost one pretty good piece that I can live without, especially since the only thing to enter Loss of Lieutenant was doc worm.

So play agressive! get your pieces into position. Don't play stupid but make sure you're not keeping your pieces out of the action for fear of losing them.

Looking good man.

I feel like I've opened Pandoras box in a different thread regarding Looting and Sabotage. The mission is really poorly written which causes a lot of confusion.

Objectives are scenery items you have to use CC D Charges on.
CC D Charges specify has to be enemy trooper.
CB ruled that you still have to use the this way.
Okay fair.
Martial arts doesn't work because it requires enemy trooper.
Fire teams specify adversary, not trooper or scenery items. So can people use team bonuses on d charges on the mission objective? It won't effect the damage but it does mean a linked engineer can slot all d charges in one go.
