About an hour from mobilization to breaching the door was good. I did not envy them the insane number of bullshit calls about phantom shooters ranging all over the Strip.

I'm pretty convinced that Trump is desperate to have his own 9/11. Or more accurately, his own 9/12, where everybody says "yes our president is an idiot but we all need to rally under him in unity".

Yeah, this is actually really about as good as a response as you're gonna get in an area with buildings that large.

Ironically, the huge amount of 911 calls with information can be a hindrance as the accurate information will get obfuscated by the sheer number of calls.

Edit: gawd drat even knowing "halfway up" that's a loving lotta ground to cover

At one point people were making calls about shooters in 8 different locations.

One of my buddies is LVMPD, I'll have to ask him how bad the bog down was due to all those reports.

Okay, if this is accurate I'm really impressed:

quote:

The attack began during Aldean's performance at about 10:08 p.m. PDT.[8][10]Many people in the crowd initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks.[11] The gunfire continued intermittently over the course of ten minutes.[12]

By around 10:25 pm, a group of law enforcement officers had reached the hotel's 32nd floor and locked it down.[13] When they announced themselves outside his suite, Paddock fired through the door, wounding a hotel security guard.[14] At around 11:21 pm, police breached the room with explosives.[13]

17 minutes.

I'm pretty sure the casinos security teams deserve some recognition too. They realized the smoke detector going off could have indicated gunsmoke.

Dunno if this would be an OPSEC violation, but I'm wondering if SWAT took the stairs or an elevator to get to the 32nd floor. I can't imagine running up 32 flights of stairs in full battle rattle would be very easy, but I doubt they'd want to take the elevator and risk getting cut down by another shooter or something.

Wasn't actually a problem because the smoke from his rounds set off the smoke alarm in his room and the firebox told them exactly which room it was. They still had to clear the whole hotel afterwards, but they had a guy in the stairwell outside of his room pretty quickly.

That poor bastard sounded scared as hell on the scanner, I'm really glad that he waited for the heavy hitters.

On that note if there was one thing that LVPD did wrong that night it was to broadcast the whole incident on their standard channels. CSPAM found the suspect's house on Google just as quickly as the cops did because they broadcast his name and address almost as soon as they were in his room.

If 9/11 happened again right now, Trump's administration would have a collective breakdown. I'm fairly sure they couldn't deal with that kind of problem.

Same thing happened with the Boston marathon bombing. We were listening to it in a bar with a scanner app on my phone.

Apparently some of the dudes from my old rescue unit were in the crowd, survived, and set up triage and treated people all the way through sun up until they could all get taken to hospitals. Sometimes people are good :gbsmith:

Probably not. That's just unreasonable for a bunch of reasons mainly that it's easier to use the service elevators which are typically semi hidden and behind lock and key to maneuver up and down the tower. There's also camera coverage in those lobbies.

It sounds like it. I mean he also thinks addressing the massively damaged US protectorate of Puerto Rico is a good time to blame them for wrecking his budget and telling them how much he saved on the F-35 when no one else would.

Yeah, was gonna say. Casinos/hotels/resorts pretty much have camera coverage everywhere except for guest rooms (for obvious reasons). I'm guessing if they had any doubts about the safety of offloading on the 32nd floor, they would have found a closer floor to offload at and then go up/down the stairs from there.

I remember thinking that the morning after. That the dude probably domed himself because he heard or surmised from radio chatter that they were closing in on him. Though I would imagine the SWAT team was on a closed/encrypted channel. Now we know it wasn't that and more the knock and announce that alerted him. Guessing that will be something that is addressed in whatever DOJ report that comes from all this.

Speaking of that scanner traffic, is it up anywhere? I'm curious to hear it.
