A cartoon about the tragedy in Vegas, featuring two people safely sitting on a couch, going about their usual business, completely unconcerned and unaffected by the tragedy in Vegas.

People died, oh well drink coffee read paper talk about those wacky Democrats

Like, this pissed me off more than the "HOW DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?" and the "here is a Vegas sign with bullet holes or w/e" cartoons. A conscious effort was made to draw a cartoon about Vegas that unironically, not satirically, treats what happened like a footnote. He had to play off Scrooge getting cursed by a witch doctor for decimating an African village as some sort of unique failure, instead of the sort of poo poo Scrooge would clearly do all the loving time.

Plus in the new show he's pretty much entirely a good guy and even spends an episode telling off a bunch of stuffy businessmen who want him to fire people and focus more on making money.

I guess Scrooge can just kinda fall anywhere on the moral spectrum based on what show/comic you're looking at. He's a very versatile character, turns out!

Scrooge once tried to secede from the US in order to get out of paying taxes, and he regularly lies shamelessly about his income in order to pay less of what he owes.

As I recall, Rosa played it off as Scrooge was a monster right up until he and Donald managed to finally talk, which was about 25 years after Donald first met his uncle and just gave him a boot up his rear end for being rude to Donald's mother. Interacting with Donald and Huey, Dewey and Louie made Scrooge less of a monster.

He then says that his motivation for doing that is entirely down to them all being completely insane, and that if he fires them they'll hunt him down for vengeance.

Also, the show refuses to make Glomgold a white South African, which is bullshit.

Yeah that's probably part of why people poo poo on it. It's telling a story with political themes. It's got characters and has to move them through the world and establish them and their personalities and motivations. Its not a web comic so the artist cant just change the format and add frames as needed. It's not political every time. When you try to do that you end up with prickly city or some crap like dbd.

You actually need to follow it a bit. Most of the comics here don't fit this format, even though some of them have characters and some form of continuity.

To be honest Zelda is more like a millennial doonsbury (or boondocks), than an editorial cartoon. And doonsbury has always been in that gray area of belonging here sometimes, so I'm totally fine with Zelda. Especially since it's being translated just for us after it got good feed back from a couple strips awhile back. So it's pretty lovely there's a bunch of whining about it.

To be fair even the very original stories were about a person who could be a monster for money having a point where they couldn't not care anymore.

Appropriate for a children's comic book, given how the reality seems to be people just double down.

It took me a while to realize I loving hate how conservative assholes always phrase a mass shooting. "Oh it was a tragedy". It's not a tragedy. Hurricanes are a tragedy or an earthquake is a tragedy. This wasn't some force of nature or event that just happened. A man planned to murder as many people as he can with a gun because it was easy for him to get a gently caress ton of weapons. Something other countries seem to not have trouble with. So you can try to frame this as some kind of natural event, gently caress knows it's common enough to feel that waybnow, and shrug your shoulders with the do nothing language of "tragedy" but we all know it's so you can continue to not do anything or evaluate your stances and when you look in a mirror continue to lie to yourself you're a good person who supports things that don't hurt other people

Don Rosa's story is about a man who becomes more and more ruthless about earning money and how that alienates from everyone (even the person who could've been the love of life) until he sits alone in his mansion. Don Rosa even references Citizen Kane to show how ruined Scrooge has become because of his wealth.
