Orwell probably wasn't a nonce but he does openly admit beating his Indian servants because they were being aggravating while dressing him, which as anyone who's been dressed by an indian knows is reasonable [pretty much sic] in I think Down and Out in Paris and London?

He was a product of his age and uncomfortably racist at times (especially in his earlier books, which he often recognized in later writing and lamented), and his brief, second marriage was a little creepy but the dude was dying at the time so I'm inclined to give him a bit of a pass on it.

Yeah, this. He mentioned in either Down and Out or Road to Wigan Pier (I forget which) that "Orientals are very aggravating" or something like it, but in later essays recognizes that he was being a shitheel about it and regrets having said so.

he was super homophobic in a lot of his stuff too. his second marriage is kinda funny tho cause he marries some young girl, obviously gets a sex life for the first time ever and writes his only book with a major female character - a young girl the older MC bangs the poo poo outta

the final chapters of wigan pier are extremely relevant still, for one he calls out "fruit juice drinking welwyn garden socialists" and apart from fruit juice drinking nails me to the wall and owns me from beyond the grave

Yeah, given that the NKVD put a hit out on him for being in POUM, I can see why he'd have a dim view of (people he thought were) Soviet-linked communists.
