Maybe they're not doing that this season" and then I saw the preview for the next episode.

Wasn't there an issue with Wizard where Koyomi's actress had an active musical career at the same time, so she couldn't actually film very often?

I wish they'd be able to do a short 6-8 episode season every couple years Supposedly she struggled with her agency to appear in the first episode of the second season. I don't think they had any issue with her. The idol character was obviously aimed at a number of performers they have had to put up with over the years but I don't think it was her predecessor. For instance, Tamao Sato (Ohranger pink) was such a drama queen during filming that I was aware of the hate-dom that was growing around her even as a naive PR Zeo fan on IRC with no access to Japanese episodes. The last time I brought her up someone elaborated and said it was all smoothed over today. But yeah, actors who just want to be noticed so they can go do something else are a thing. Well good on Heisei Generations Final for going out on a big note and getting more than half of the post-Decade series riders back. I almost kind of hope that this is literally just a tease and that they're gonna go all out and bring back even more Riders sans suits but even if they can't, this is still a pretty nice group to end this particular movie series with.

And is basically playing a more airheaded version of Drake and especially The Next V3 in that, alongside the guy who played Decade!Kuuga as Red.

SpazmasterX posted:So do you think after Build we can expect to see Kamen Rider Score or something That's going to depend entirely on how Build handles going into the new time slot opposite Dragon Ball Super. Basically, worst case scenario, Kamen Rider as we know it might be going on hiatus for a little while. With the changing of eras, the next series is definitely going to be an interesting thing to see.

PMush Perfect posted:Why are they putting it to compete with themselves? I think this might fall to the TV networks. They work differently in Japan, and this absolutely would not be the first time. Don't forget, Kamen Rider Stronger was cut short to only 39 episodes because it was moved to compete with Go Ranger. Kamen Rider might make it out of the channel change alright. The real series to worry about would be Sentai, which hasn't been on break since the 80s and has been failing in ratings for a long drat time now. It's going up against One Piece, which is some how worse than it's current competition, Pokemon. That might be why, if those rumors are true for next year's Sentai, it's going to be so experimental and different. Try and keep what audience it has and spice things up to HOPEFULLY draw new blood too. The new Sentai would also be airing around the time of the new Era change, which is going to be a fairly big deal for Japan.

Because this era obsession seems fuckin' weird if not, because it's not like Toei ritually sacrifices everyone responsible for making the show when the Emperor of Japan is coroneted. Sentai hardly has any definitive line as it slowly blended from one path to the other, Kamen Rider is easy to segregate like that because it's one of those shows that had a long trip in the wilderness. People are really screaming about ratings, but Ex-Aid getting three movies and selling a bunch of blu ray boxes implies that people are seeing the show even if it's not through traditional TV airings. I don't know anything about non-broadcast or grey market television in Japan, so I have no idea how people are watching it (they may be downloading [THISFILEHASNOSUBS] files for all I know) but it seems like they indeed are watching it.

It's a good excuse as any to try a franchise revamp if the execs have been thinking about it for a while. Honestly, there was a pretty obvious one right in the middle of the Heisei era and that's why there's a phase 1 and phase 2 distinction. At least this way there's a built-in label to associate with the new approach.

Hi thread, it's been a while. I have CTRL+F'd the prefix "ultra" for 21 FUKKEN pages and there's barely anything and you dorks are still on babytime frolic poo poo like Kamen Rider and Garo and everything else that isn't Ultraman. Burkion, WHERE IS THE ULTRA POST? Are they still trying to tie that awful action figure poo poo into the main shows like with Ginga? What is this Geed stuff? Pretend I just stepped out of a cryo-pod from the year 2014 with the words "ALL ULTRA, ALL THE TIME" written on it. Will any modern Ultra series ever be as good as Max? (No.)

It's like Ultraman and Zubat (as in the Magnificent, not the Pokemon) had a baby. Your enjoyment will probably have a lot to do with how much you enjoy the shenanigans of it's Lone Gunmen-esque squad of weirdo supporting characters. Geed is a little... lacking in dynamism so far, but there's fun fanservice with the Zero/Belial beef, and fusion kaiju (now there's something Rider and Sentai won't have/if they do it won't be as good), and Geed himself is going through a classic hero coming of age thing. Ultraman Chat has been halted as I get some things done. But as others have said, Orb abandons the action figure collectible, and Geed further leaves it behind. Geed actually does the Build idea first, just without shaking them. Craptacular! posted:Is anyone in production actually changing? Because this era obsession seems fuckin' weird if not, because it's not like Toei ritually sacrifices everyone responsible for making the show when the Emperor of Japan is coroneted. Sentai hardly has any definitive line as it slowly blended from one path to the other, Kamen Rider is easy to segregate like that because it's one of those shows that had a long trip in the wilderness. Japan is, still, a very traditional country, and when something as major as an Era changeover happens, they do take the opportunity to re-brand a lot of things. So if we're ever going to see a major change in how Kamen Rider and Sentai have been since the last major shake up, we're approaching that point next year. Though honestly, it may not really settle in until a few years from now. Some things being defined by Era can get weird. With the Godzilla franchise, Godzilla 1984 is retroactively brought into the Heisei Era despite VERY much not being there While with Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Black RX, Shin, ZO and J are all considered Showa Riders despite them happening either partly, or entirely, in the Heisei Era. Both are good examples of what I mean by franchise shakeup. Kuuga was the successful revival for Kamen Rider, so it is considered officially to be the First Heisei Series, despite RX technically being the first, as it was running during the changeover, and Shin DEFINITELY being the first otherwise. Same for Godzilla 1984, which spawned the ever popular Heisei Godzilla series, despite it firmly being in the Showa Era. Double marked such a departure from Kuuga, and the following series more or less followed his lead to such an extent, that people took to calling it NeoHeisei or Phase 2. I'd fully expect a similar change when Build ends, because Build is very clearly an homage to Double in his gimmick and design. Even Super Sentai went through a similar change up, which I'll get more into when I continue my write up on the franchise. Liveman, the last Showa Era series, was also the last of what I like to call the Serious Era of Sentai, a period from Bioman to Liveman where Super Sentai focused primarily on more Shonen Hero kind of things. These are the fabled series that you see the most serious monster designs, the heavy serious themes, and the beginnings of character driven drama from. TurboRanger was a step towards what Sentai would settle on. Some times serious stuff, but mostly light hearted and surrounded by goofy things. A goofy tone overlaid on super hero action. Jetman was a mutant throwback that stands alone in the early Heisei Era of Sentai, beyond the aborted first 13 episodes of OhRanger. The fact that Sentai runs without end makes it harder to pin down specific eras too easily, but they do have them. A lot of Sentai blends together. Lately they've been skewing younger even in toy design, so we'll see what happens in the future.
